Haha, I can't believe people here are beating this up as well. I expected it from cricket media, but not from posters here.

The Australian team wanted to pose with the trophy for pictures, as there was a horde of people with cameras in front of the podium. Pawar was standing in the way and looking like he wasn't sure what to do. Martyn nudged him so he would get out of the way. Pawar laughed the incident off.

That's all there is to it, people. If it happened in Australia, not only would people not get offended, I doubt it would even be reported on. It's such a non-issue it's unbelievable.
I agree with nearly all of that. IMO, Martyn's nudge was more than just a nudge and there was a more courteous and respectful way to get Pawar out of the way.
He certainly didn't commit an outrageous act or anything close to it, though. Hence, I called it virtually a non-issue.

I kinda wonder at the purpose of asking me how other people would react, but in general in Australia, this kind of thing isn't taken that seriously, because of the whole larrikin ideal. Granted, I could see a section of the media trying to beat it up, and you may even see a section of the population get up in arms about it, but the majority of us would be laughing and wishing they'd stop embarrassing us. You can never say nobody will be offended.

But we're talking about a country where an earlier PM put his hand on the queen's ass, and around half the population thought that was cool (and funny). And that's a far more serious breach of protocol than this could ever be.
Well, the reason why asked because the reaction of majority of aussie members here seems little inconsistent to me esp with my exp in the past at other forums. When Ganguly made Steve Waugh wait for the toss, almost all the aussies I interacted with (on internet forums ofcourse) were of the opinion that how dare Ganguly made a legend like Waugh wait for toss and in a way being arrogant and blah.

Oh and I do think queen ass grab was funny as hell.

Apparently Gavaskar is too a little upset, particularly with the fact that when one player received his medal he went "Hiya Buddy" to Pawar.

I've got $5 it was Watson, just seems something the jackass would do.
What's wrong with that?

Yeah exactly he could've found a better way to tell him to get out the way and the way Ponting was pointing out to hand the trophy over certainly wasn't very mature but like i said not as big of a deal as the media is making it out to be.

Haha, maybe. I wasn't around back when that happened. But even though Gangs did annoy me at times, I actually admire his ability to get under the opposition's skin, and I've often likened him to Ian Chappell in that regard (and I don't think there's any question that it's what he was doing with Waugh, and it was working). And there's definitely a difference between a sporting gripe (comments in a forum can often be quite obsessive about minutae) and what is being described in the Indian press as some kind of diplomatic incident. But really, the clearest distinction between the two events would be that this one wasn't even supposed to get up anybody's nose, and I think it was all pretty good-natured.

I can guarantee you that many others would.
Didn't AB refuse water to Kapil Dev when he accidentally killed a pigeon and was upset about it?

The guy is the biggest jerk in cricket, I think.

The Aussies could have behaved a little better but then again, I put Ponting in the category of AB in that they believe in being jerks on the field. So, there goes.

Anyways, this incident has been blown way out of proportion.

I mean, can't they go and protest about something that actually matters? US incursions in the middle east, exploitation of child workers on the subcontinent.. Damien Martyn??

Jono, any particular reason for your dislike of Watson?
To be honest, half the time I'm just mucking around. But to me, he's a ****y prick on the field yet shuts up when he's getting his ass handed to him. Hasn't done nearly enough to earn it yet.

Good batsman though, will be a gun. Which is a shame really.

Animal abuse?

Gotta give them credit though, 'Damien Martyn' is written very neatly on the donkey.

Haha, is it just me, or do they all look really embarassed in that photo? Like they thought it was a good idea at the time, and now that the camera is there they are thinking "oh man... we're going to look like such tools...".

Well just watched the video again and was surprised to see pawars reaction to the whole thing, it didnt seem to affect him.
The strange thing is, yesterday he talked to the media and he said he had no problem with it at all.
