I will not agree to that. Think Rohit is in the tier with Iyer, infact I am not sure who was better between them, one below Virat and above Rahul.

Just an illustration how much faster and better for batting the last 3 WCs have been compared to the rest.

It's ofcourse been way faster but the avg difference between it and 96 has been like 2 runs.

Yes, but it's because everyone is playing faster. If batsmen played at a similar SR as before, the avg difference would be way higher just because of ease of batting now.
So 1996 wc was also very batting friendly?
The average is quite close to last 3 WC

Look at the SR too. People earlier played slower and just played long. If the guys decided to do that today, the avgs would soar but it wouldn't be good for the team as they would be doing it at a slower rate.
I think the value of SR is getting underrated here quite a lot. It's just as important as avg is in ODI cricket. The avgs appear similar today because everyone is taking more risk and playing faster. Not because of ease of batting conditions.

Yeah that's true.
It also illustrates though that Sachin 96 beats Kohli 23 on absolute RPI and is much faster relatively too. Hence, a clear no 1, and kohli 23 is one which I wouldn't put in my top 3.
But again, I think we have a different view on ODIs in general, which results in the differing opinions on the Kohli campaign, which is fine too.

On a side note, Tendulkar in the group stage game against SL in 1996, plays a brilliant knock of 137(137), while his opening partner, Manoj Prabhakar, makes 7(36). 7(36) for ****s sake. Wth was that.
