Rugby League - International

GB call up Fa'asavalu

From the Beeb. He's been in good form for Saints & has played all his league in England so don't see why not, really. Not sure it'll do wonders for international league's credibility tho.

BBC about a week late on that story. Knew the squad on Wednesday.

Wouldn't have Fa'asavalu in there itbt. Nothing to do with the nationality thing, just been rubbish since the beginning of August.

Kangaroos considered Moimoi legal challenge?

From The Guardian.

The article's mainly about Sam Burgess really, but one bit caught my eye. Andy Wilson says:

Moimoi is highly enough regarded for Australia to have considered a legal challenge to prevent him making his New Zealand debut against them two weeks ago.

As he's NZ born & educated and only qualifies for Oz on residency I wonder what the basis of that legal challenge would be?

Ha! Fa'asavalu goes over on debut for The Lions! Top poach.

Burrow converts: 6-4 to the good guys.

EDIT: Should've had a second. Burrow throws quite the worst pass ever with the try-line begging.

Perrett drops a family sized bollock and allows the ball to bounce in the in-goal after a decent punt forward from Burrow, oblivious to the speeding Gareth Raynor who touches the loose ball down. 14-10 GB.

Fifteen minutes to play here, it's 32-0 to GB, and the last three tries have come from GB running at the Kiwi defence and pulling them apart left-right-centre with offload, offload, offload.

Fourteen years since a series win...

GB have looked pretty decent, it must be said. NZ have been on the shabby side of ordinary though. Sonny Bill & Benji Marshall are huge misses for them.

I've definitely been watching too much union of late tho; I keep willing the full-back to punt for touch when he takes the ball in front of his own posts!

Senior accepts a gift as I type.

And Leon Pryce runs the length of the field to make it 44-0.

If anything better has ever happened in Hull, I'm yet to hear of it.

Reckon Kidwell and Webb are just as important, if not more so. Then throw in that they've lost Wiki and Jones since we played them last year and you've got the weakest NZ team I've ever seen. Pack can muscle up, but aren't. There's no direction from the halves. I'd never even heard of Perrett before this series, and his performances suggest to me I wouldn't have had any reason to have heard of him.

I think Perrett was getting a regular run for the Chooks this year, but since Sultana have nicked the NRL coverage I hadn't seen him play before this series. Looks average in the extreme.

What is the deal with Webb, btw? He's not injured, is he? Or is he? Is it still the ARL having a sook about him not being resident in NZ anymore?

Perrett was a regular on the wing for the Roosters, filled in at fullback on a couple of occasions but is nothing more than an average first grade player, if that.

Fairly sure Webb is injured as well.

Biggest problem for NZ is their halves, Hohaia spent most of the year in the Warriors reserves and from what i've heard Leuluai hasn't been that crash hot, just average. They don't really have any other options though except Marshall, with Jeremy Smith being one of the worst halfbacks in the NRL.
