Nope - f**k them - let's invite someone else or use the time for the proposed domestic development program. To offer them a higher gate is to give in to their blackmail and who are they to deserve higher gate takings?

As much as I love the past contributions made by Pakistani cricket they are not exactly setting the world alight either as a team or as individuals - it's not like it's Australia threatening to pull out.

If the PCB want to take this stance then I say p**s them off into the wilderness and see how long it takes for them to come down from their high horse!

India have set a precedent by refusing to tour Pakistan for political reasons, RSA & NZ have every right to do so for 'security reasons'. No blackmail type action has been taken v India so why should Pakistan or anyone else be allowed to do so v NZ?

:!( :!( :!(
Let's not get carried away here Anzac. Pakistan haven't threatened to boycott anything yet...

Karachi really seems to be the only problem. I don't understand why they can't work the schedule around it.

I also think the PCB are doing bloody well to get NZ back there considering its only just been a year since the fatal bomb blast.

Why don't they matchup in Sharjah? There's a great cricketing atmosphere there and it seems more acceptable to the general cricketing public safety-wise.

So you disagree with the South African decision?

I most definitely do

Im fed up with the double standards being applied by the UCBSA, the fact is that Johannesburg is the most dangerous city outside of a warzone, and it always hosts tests (remeber Inzy getting mugged, Andrew Hall shot), and they are pointing the finger at Pakistan because of one bomb that had no casualties and no connection with SA...

Ive got a feeling that a country was touring SA when a mosque outside Johannesburg was blown up (with lots of people i seem to remember), yet no questions are ever asked about SA's safety as a host country... I know where id feel safer playing cricket anyway... If I was a Pakistan fan i would be very very annoyed...

Pakistan are trying to reschedule the tour by changing the venues to those which are safe.

Hopefully they can negotiate and get it to go ahead.
You read it here first ;)

Precisely. I was about to quote that incident with Saqlain...sure the security concerns are valid, but these things happen all around the world all the time, just that it is an issue when it is happening in Pakistan. SA could very easily have had requested a change of venue or something. Why did they have to pull out of the WHOLE tour?

Its heartening to hear that a deal has been made and there WILL be some cricket here.

I dont think the BCCI are in a position to tell NZ to do anything. What are India going to do? Not let NZ tour them?

granted the PCB have not said anything re the NZ tour as of yet, just as NZ have not said anything either so far as I am aware.....

anyhow the tour is back on with 2 changes of venues & in an abridged format of 2 tests only......

IMO one of the underlying considerations from SA was the implied threat of a 10 mill lawsuit from the PCB!

so far as other international venues are concerned it is up to the touring teams to kick up a stink about any incidents, esp when they involve player safety.

furthermore if there is a current history of violence v players or terrorism (dometsic or otherwise), then any prospective touring party needs to address these issues b4 settleing on the tour specifics.

Just on the subject of violence, there is a h*ll of a difference between localised criminal violence in a specific suburb / socio economic group (eg The Bronx, SOWETO, Brixton or where ever), and random acts of terrorism such as bombings or racial killings.

bottom line is that 2 wrongs do not make a right so far as so called double standards are concerned when making the decision to pull out of any tour.

SA possibly felt that at such a late hour their best option was to cancel to ensure negotiations took place re change of venue & itinary etc.

When SA cancelled the tour, they weren't in the mood to PLAY IN PAK atall, so all this talk of SA trying to enter into negotiation is untrue.SA were forced to reconsider their decision after pressure was applied on them by Pak and ICC.

On the subject of violence, a localized criminal violence can be as bad as terrorist act, for example no one got hurt in the recent bomb blast in Karachi, but the violence incedent that took place in SA (during last Pak tour) resulted in Saqlain and Mohd Akram being mugged and Akram getting badly injured! On top SA police was of no help , so much so that Pak captain had then decided to abandoned the tour but unfortunately the PCB didn't agree with the then Captain's view.

The most interesting thing is that when Australia refused to play in Pak last year, the UCBSA boss had critisised the ACB desicion and had even said that had SA team were to visit Pak then, he would have forced his players to play in Pak (this is on record).

I did say 'possibly' - I know I'd use it as a tactic in certain circumstances......

while both are criminal acts you can not compare localised criminal activity such as assaults and muggings to 'random' act of terrorism such as bombings - regardless of whether anyone was injured or not - the scales are not the same.

Every city in the world has certain areas / neighbourhoods that you avoid at certain times - common sense. If the players do that then it could have been a situation of being in the wrong place at the wrong time, or there could have been some provocation as claimed in the Cairns incident during the WC, or similar such incidents in certain SA cities during the Super 12 Rugby Union.

So far as the comments by the UCBSA boss are concerned it just proves that even idiots can reach the top in most countries!

Bottom line is that the bombings in Pakistan appear to have been going on for some time - granted they are also sporadic and probably not by the same group. The fact that previous bombing have specifically targeted westerners, and that the NZ cricket team avoided tragedy by the skin of their teeth, is sufficient IMO to call the tour off until further notice.

At this point in time I could not care less if there were no more tours of Pakistan for some time - it would be a shame but I do not think the risk is justified.

As a player / administrator I would refuse to go as I do not believe that enough action has been taken to address the ongoing situation.
