Round 10 Team Reports and Announcements

State 12th Man
An impressive century from Michael Vandort has led WA's 2nd XI to a 94-run win over Mumbai this week. Opening for a new-look team - 6 changes were made from last round - Vandort never looked troubled as he batted through 50 overs to finish on 149 from 145 balls. However, limited support from his teammates saw the total reach a slightly disappointing 5/261. The bowlers were on task from the beginning, with Beasley removing Maxwell in the first over with the score still on 0. Mumbai continued to lose wickets at regular intervals, with a 40-run last wicket stand between Indulkar and Bhandari preventing things from becoming even more embarrassing.

Match scores: WA 261-5 from 50 overs (Vandort 149*, Spenser 44, Thomspon 2-50) defeated Mumbai 167 all out from 45 overs (Indulkar 48*, Wise 33, Beasley 3-41) by 94 runs.

Northerns 2nd XI vs NSW Match Report

Heavy Hitting Gets Northerns Home

K Pietersen and U Afzaal both struck superb centuries at more than a run a ball to secure a win for Northerns 2nd XI. Backed up by some very tight bowling from T Gavaskar the Titan's total never really looked like being chased down.

Batting first, Northerns reached 307/4 after Pietersen reached 108 (89) and Afzaal struck and unbeaten 133* (115). Both batsman had Strike Rate's of over 115 as the NSW bowling lineup suffered from some clean hitting near the end of the innings, Parris was the pick of the bowlers with 3-57 off his 9 overs but it was Fry who snared dangerman Pietersen. NSW got off to a solid start, reaching 88 before losing their first wicket and it was all downhill from there, with the Titan's bowlers restricting them to 239/6. There were some encouraging signs for the Blues as Depeiaza, Fry and Sodhi all getting past 40. They were not helped by a brilliant effort from opening bowler T Gavaskar who bowled 6 maidens and went for 26 runs off his 10 overs aswell as getting a wicket.

Northerns 307/4
U Afzaal 133* (115), K Pietersen 108 (89)

Yorkshire overcome Kent
A strong bowling performance by Yorkshire has seen them win by a margin of over 100 runs against local rivals Kent.
Set up by Mohammed Salman's 98 not out, Yorkshire managed to strike early , reducing Kent to 4 for 15. A partnership of over 60 followed, and it looked as though Kent may chase down Yorkshire's relatively small total. L French was the main hope for Kent, striking 52. But once he was out, the rest followed suit and Yorkshire were the victors by 106 runs.
Darren Gough took a season best 4 for 11 and was well supported by the other Yorkshire bowlers.

Mohammed Salman fell two runs short of another century.

After the match, manager Greg Thomas spoke to the press.
"Really pleased with that performance" he said. "Our bowlers haven't had the best season so far but they really stood up in this match. To dismiss a team for just over 100 is a brilliant effort by anyones standards."
He went on to comment about wicket-keeper opening batsman, Mohammed Salman.
"He's been a revelation for us this season. He's exceeded all expectations. To be honest, he was asked to open because we didn't really have anyone in mind for that position. Fortunately it's paid off as he has 476 runs at 68 this season, with two centuries and two half fifties in the regular comp, and 2 fifties from the CW Bar Cup competition. It's been brilliant with him and Beasley at the top, being able to get us off to quick starts and big opening stands. Using two pinch hitters seems to be working well."

The Yorkshire 2nd XI couldn't manage the success of their senior team, going down by 16 runs to a hard fighting Kent 2nd XI outfit.
The rookies again had a big impact for Yorkshire but were unable to seal victory. T Lyon was the stand out, with 108 runs.

Yorkshire 3 for 214
M Salman 98*, K Agnew 41*

Yorkshire made one change to the team that drew against Karachi last week.

All-rounder Roy Silva has been dropped after 10 matches under the microscope. He's been replaced by seamer P Laker which will provide Yorkshire with a very strong pace attack for the seam friendly Kent pitch.
