Even if there wasn't that hard rule in place barring him from leadership roles I do think a very large section of the casual sport-watching public here would basically revolt and it'd be a PR nightmare for CA if they tried it.

Maybe, but sometimes captaincy brings out the best in such folks too. Ganguly was considered very selfish and aloof and haughty and arrogant before he was captain too.

Well when you put it like that ...
But I really don't know. I'm not generally in favour of quicks captaining the side, although I know there are exceptions to that rule. Lyon is very experienced. And I suppose I don't actually know what a natural leader looks like. I remember writing against Vaughan getting the England job on that sort of basis, so I'm not the best person to ask.

Yeah but like there's a huge portion of the cricket-watching public which flat out would not accept it and would be actively hostile. Whether he's any good at the job or not in that case becomes kind of irrelevant.
