I thought you rated Kohli marginally above Sachin as an ODI bat

Richards at the top seems the consensus on CW

Richards at the top seems the consensus on CW
Imo it should really be consensus. He scored at 47 average and 90 SR. For context, SRT did at 45 and 86; starting 20 years later...... With reference to era, Viv's stats are bonkers. Only Abbas was close, but sadly didn't played enough.

In terms of being ahead of his peers the answer is clearly Richards. But, and this is obviously just nitpicking, but ODIs were in their infancy then and not many had figured out the way to go in odi cricket. Richards figured it out fast and expressed himself fully and I give him credit for that but the gap wouldn't be that big in any subsequent era for almost anyone. Richards also had the luxury of playing in the greatest team of all time, which meant that Richards could do basically what he wanted.
Tendulkar from 1994 (when he started to open) till 2003 (before his tennis elbow) scored 11006 runs @ 48.5 and 90+ SR including 36 100s (Richards had 11). Obviously this was in a later and easier era but one point is Sachin had the role of both anchor and aggressor for India for almost the entirety of that time. They simply couldn't afford him to get out and he had very little support, which matters less in comparing test performances but more in ODIs imo.
Richards dominated more and was further ahead of his peers than Sachin was, but I edge it to Sachin because I think he had more impact and for a much longer time. No issues in having Richards ahead though, I have him at 2.

This probably sounds a bit biased, but yeah, I would have Sachin over him

More centuries is definitely a strong suit, as is the longevity and sheer volume of runs. But even during that 7 years peak of Tendulkar, he only matched Viv's career stats, in an easier era. And I also won't say he didn't had any support over that time, Ganguly was genuinely one of the leading ODI batsmen in the late 90s/early 2000s; their opening partnership is the best ever in ODIs. There was also Azhar in the middle order, was a really good ODI bat, and while no one will call Dravid and Jadeja world beaters, they weren't half bad either. And from early 2000s onwards there was Yuvi and Sehwag; and India's batting turned genuinely great.

What I would say is that before Yuvi and Sehwag really found their feet, it was mainly Sachin who was keeping the SR kick above par whilst also making the big runs. Dravid and Ganguly were a bit slow even for that era and even accouning for that, the batting was largely dependent on Sachin (much more than Richards), especially in the big games. Also it is a 10yr peak with 11k+ runs so, I give it a high weightage.
But yeah, Richards is a very well deserved no 1 too for anyone

Genuinely great record. I would say though, SRT failing in both the WC Finals is a valid criticism.
Yeah it is, probably the only criticism (apart from maybe the post 2011 wc period) in his entire career. But I won't put him down for 2 games, although Richards obviously had that great innings of 138* in the 1979 wc final which is a plus point for him
