Sounds promising, but i think the pairings will be fair for a few season until the teams are in the divisions where they belong. All that talk about randomly giving the players to the teams may not actually even the teams out. Also if this system was to go ahead the off season would be pushed further back because it would be impossible trading to start until the swaps are done, and the swaps cant be done til the end of the season.

Also, are these swaps forced? Or can the lower side choose the players they want from the 6.

It wouldn't effect the season in the slighest as in my first post I said these could be done on the last couple of days of trading (or you could close it and give a couple of days) - So it wouldn't add anymore than a day or two at the very most onto the current lenght.

No they aren't forced, basically the strong side says these are the 6 players who are leaving... you get first refusal so to speak, take who you want and leave your rejects in return

I'm with The Argonaut here..

Having a re-think on allocation of pairs.. use the positions after promotion and relegation - badly worded..

Example finishing positions
Division One
1 Free State
2 Kent
3 South Australia
4 Somerset
5 Mumbai
6 Karnataka
Division Two
1 ACT
2 Mashonaland

Free State 1 ... Somerset 4 ... ACT 5 ... Mashonaland 6 ... Mumbai 7 ... Karnataka 8

Then the Top 12 swap with the Bottom 12, this avoids the farce of the sides in Division 3 next year all inheriting each other's players..

Yeah but what i meant was that we would have to do the transfers before the start of the trading season. If we dont then the top teams would know that they wont be getting very good players for their worse 6, so they would desperately trade their bottom 6 in the usual 3 good players for 1 very good and 2 crap. So at the end of the trading period when they offer their 6 players to their partners they will be offering crap.

Eg. Say at the end of the season i plan on releasing Johnson who avgs around 30 in od and 40 in fd. Hes a decent player and my partner might want him, and in return my partner gives me like some keeper avging like 20 in both forms. Knowing this would happen wouldnt i be better off trading Johnson with another of my better players like Jaffer for a player even better then Jaffer and a crap one. So at the end of the season when i offer my 6, Johnson wont be there, instead there will be a worse player which the team wont want.

So the only way to stop this problem would be to do the partner swaps before the trading period. As we cant do the swaps til the season has finished, the trading period wont open until the season has ended. This will push the start of the next season back.

Tell me if im wrong but this is the draft really isnt it.

In the draft the top teams get rid of better players that the bottom teams want and because these bottom teams have a higher choice in the draft they can have their choice of the best players. Yes no?

yeah. but i don't agree with it. think about it. ACT r better than me. but i would have to give my players. when tehre are alot of teams in div 3 and under that are better than me. we all know divisions don't mean too much at the mo. i think it ha to be rated. and not done just on divisions. i would consider myself just outside the top 15. but teh divisions don't show that at all.

you dont have to sawp players, but the option is there for the players that the better teams doesnt want to keep

That's the same thing I thought Andy - at the moment the sides aren't all where they should be, so to base it on league position is going to end up with some silly pairings.

I suggest we could have a team rating 4 each team....

Team rating could be calculated as bat stats of all retained players+bowl stats of retained players (only bowlers here) in both forms

This could then be arranged in the ascending order and top 15 and bottom 15 teams could be paired.

No what iam saying is you go right through the transfer period and then when it's closed you have to select your 6 players to drop, these are the 6 that the buddy teams get to pick from... they can't request players... If a strong team wishes to trade all their lesser players away so be it... they aren't obliged that they must give a buddy team quality players... All iam saying is for Kent as an example I have a strenght in depth and all my players are good in one form at least so regardless of who's in my squad 6 must leave so the buddy side will get a good players from Kent at least, if the other stronger clubs are that insistant of tryying to trade all their avg players away for rubbish just so the buddy side gets nothing then well they are just being pretty mean as they have to give 6 away so what does it matter how good they are... they wont have to face those teams for at least 2 seasons

yeah it'd be stupid to pair me with ACT or WP or some team like that, when almost all of ACT's and WP's players could fit into my team!!

Why would the good teams be needing anymore help? You don't take from the poor to give to the rich...
