Cos Akilina doesn't have an anti-Smith vendetta on the go?

More seriously, I value longevity very highly and don't like assessing players until they have retired. If Smith is gonna challenge Sachin, it's not gonna be now for me.
Ok that makes sense.

so Warne or Murali>Tendulkar for you?
Yes. My main criteria for an ATG is how much I think an average Test team be improved by a the player, so Warne/Murali easily over Tendulkar.

I will add the caveat that I don't think Warne and Murali would do particularly well in a World ATG XI vs World 2nd XI series.

isn't Akilana's agenda anti-subcontinent in general?
IDK. You spend more time here than me, so I'm certainly not gonna argue about being the case if you have seen it.

All I have noticed about him is his burning hatred for Sachin.

Well, certainly not very fond of Gavaskar, Imran or Wasim, but none is as palpable as the Sachin hate.

inb4 kyear says "actually, Kallis' secondary discipline was standing at slip all day, and yes that's more valuable than being Jeff Crowe."

Hadlee> any player not named Bradman, Sobers or Imran.
Well I have Hadlee more or less tied for 5th.

Bradman and Hobbs among batsmen

Sobers is about par or just behind on primary and both auxiliary skills trumps Hadlee's.

Marshall the bowler is ahead.

He's easily ahead of Imran for me...

Fully agree with the highlighted sentences...

Speaks for themselves.

Or is it possible that as one of a handful of SA's that he's the sole defender of their top cricketers?

But no, Kallis isn't a top 10 bat, much more of an argument as a cricketer, but even then, not quite.

Why? All of CMJ, David Gower, John Woodcock & Geoff Armstrong had Imran higher than Hadlee.

Why is Tendulkar ahead of Kallis?

Headley is one of 8 elite performers in their primary skills.

There's Bradman and the 4 competing for the best after him and the 3 bowlers with an argument to be the best.

I don't care what other skills you being to the table, you're not getting ahead of those guys.

Don't think anyone would say that Imran was better than or even comparable to Sir Richard with the ball, and Sir Richard could also hold a bat, and didn't pad his batting stats quite as badly.

Think Imran is honestly more comparable to Hammond than Hadlee.

Plus at the end of the day, Hadlee the better bowler, Imran the better batsman. You're selecting a team where one of them is the opening bowler who will be opening you attack the world over, which are you choosing.

I know CW are disproportionately impressed by lower order batting, but which?

Top 5 is a bit generous.

At most the top 3.
Let's say the top 2 or 3 bowlers are pacers and 4th and 5th are Murali and Warne. Spinners have the advantage when it comes to the additional workload, which gives them more value to an average team and helps make them "greater".
