ANGRY VAUGHAN SENSATIONALLY QUITS WCC!

Former Englan captain today shocked the World Club Cricket community by announcing his retirement from the game. At a short press conference this morning before Yorkshire's Round four win over Auckland he noted the reason for his retirement was because he has been continually over looked for one day cricket. Despite being a mainstay at the top of the order for Yorkshire's First Class team he has been unable to crack the one day side. After making a brilliant 173 last week in four day cricket he thought this round he would be picked, but despite his great form he was again overlooked for selection. Vaughan said that playing just one form was not in his best interests anymore and that if he's not playing one day cricket as well then he will be seeking further opportunies away from the cricket field.

Vaughan went on to say the past season and a half were the most unhappy of his career and also added that manager Greg Thomas is "a joke". Despite the outburst it is expected that Vaughan will see out the season, it's yet to be seen if Vaughan will remain part of the push to get out of the bottom two in First Class. Manager Thomas was unavailable for comment before this mornings match.

Vaughan is Yorkshire's leading run scorer in First Class cricket in WCC with 1156 runs @ 42.81 which includes three centuries. Despite his great form he has managed just 2 career one day games, both in which he scored unbeaten half centuries.

Vaughan faces the media this morning

As part of World Club Cricket's promotion of youth cricket Yorkshire will get a young rookie to add to their squad for season three, the first player they will be offered is 19 year old fast bowler B Virdi. Their manager now has the choice to either accept Virdi based on his stats below or they can pass on him and be offered a different player instead. If no decision is made in the next seven days then Virdi will join the Yorkshire squad next season.

COBRAS STAR LEAVES THE GAME

Thirty-three year old Cobras all rounder Jacques Kallis today announced his retirement from World Club Cricket. In what will prove a massive shock to his team mates Kallis has has informed the club he has lost the desire to play the game at the top level. He has been an important member of the South African side in the past two seasons and he will be sorely missed. Some people are already speculating a rumoured bust up with captain Graeme Smith over his position in the batting order is one of the reasons for his retirement. Kallis is reportedly unhappy batting at three but Cobras heirachy have forced him to bat there all season.

Kallis' career in WCC could be called somewhat disapointing, despite being considered the games premier first class all rounder he has scored just 837 runs @ 33.48 and taken just 34 wickets @ 4044. One day cricket has been just as poor to him with only 336 runs @ 25.85 and 16 wickets @ 42.19. With these sort of numbers Kallis will be aiming to make an impact before the season is out.

ANOTHER REDBACKS STAR RETIRES

Just six months after South Australia lost captain and star batsman Darren Lehmann another key member of their leadership group has announced his retirement. Opening batsman and captain Matthew Elliott has decided to leave the game at the end of the season to persue coaching options in the game. At an emotional press conference this morning Elliott admitted he was close to not joining WCC in the first place but felt he owed the Redbacks after their Loyalty since he left Victoria to join them four years ago. At the age of 37 it's no surprise that Elliott see's his future away from the playing field however some may have felt that he had another good year in him.

After a lean year in season 1 he has shown glimpses of real form this campaign and his current career first class stats read 1110 runs @ 37 while he has been prolific in one day cricket with 772 runs @ 51.47. He also made last years WCC One Day team of the year.

Will be tough losing both Darren Lehmann and Matthew Elliot in succisive seasons, but the club looks forward to a move on in the near future.

I would like to pass up on Thornhill as South Australia already has a settled side with spinners in Cullen and Bailey.

VICTORIAN SPINNER RETIRES

Disapointed Victorian fans gathered outside the clubs training ground yesterday afternoon as news broke of the decision to retire by spinner Bryce McGain. The 37 year old is largely inexperienced and with first team oppourtunities coming his way reguarly his retirement comes of a bit of a shock. One angry fan labelled McGain as "soft for leaving when the going got tough." With Victoria not playing their best cricket in the four dayers this year this fan wasn't the only one saying McGain jumped off a sinking ship.

At McGain's press conference yesterday evening he gave what were probably more accurate reasons for his decision, he had this to say; "We have a young and improving squad and I feel the side will be better for this decision, there were a number of talented spinners at the academy this year and hopefully we can intice one here." McGain has impressed in his 12 match WCC Career taking 47 first class wickets @ 29.88, while is one day form was a little disapointing with just 9 wickets in 13 matches @ 71.89.

TIGERS VETERAN TO RETIRE AT SEASONS END

Tasmania Tigers vice-captain Dan Marsh has today announced his retirement from the game. After playing a supporting role in the round eight win over title challengers Titans he admitted that he thought it was time to bring the youngsters in and give them a fair go. Marsh believed he had another good year in him, but conceeded he could be indecline and wouldn't want to leave the Tigers short during next season. He added that the fact they sit atop the One Day division two table motivated him to call it a day now as they can start to prepare for next season with promotion in mind.

Marsh's first class career has been acceptable in a disappoiting batting line up, playing 17 games for 981 runs @ 35.04 he sits third behind Michael Di Venuto and Ricky Ponting on the states all time run scorers list. He's also chipped in with 17 wickets at a handy average of 40. He has found one day cricket difficult to say the least! Scoring just 238 runs @ 21.64 in this 17 matches in this form it is looking as though Marsh has picked a good time to give the game away.

Seeing as though you have passed on your first two players you must accept this third player. He will replace Marsh in your squad for next season, it will be up to you to decide to retain him or dump him to the draft when we do the final cut after this season.

Z Subramanya - Spin Bowler (20 Years Old)
