Just to quote the old post of mine about Forum Atmosphere Bans -

http://www.cricketweb.net/forum/2653316-post226.html

Don't have any problems if the standards mantained for everyone are the same though, without pressure.

Though another Problem would be what happens when say there is a England - South Africa series and there are 4/5 Englishs fans who are biased, and know each other and along comes one South African fan who has completely the opposite view on most issues. Now there are disagreement galores and it clouds the match thread etc.. Obviously, for the English Fans the threads and the "forum atmosphere" would be better if he was not there, as they could agree on most things and all will be jolly and probably for most of the neutrals too, who would not have too see many drawn out arguments. But does that mean the South African Fan must be banned for having a dissenting view, and not conforming to the popular view while expressing it? And because some reckon him not being there means that there are more like minded and so a better atmosphere, so to speak where they can taunt etc.. more freely too?
No. In your example it's quite clearly the England fans who are having an effect on forum atmosphere.

Surely there has to be disagreement for there to be a forum atmosphere at all?

After all if we all agreed there'd be precious little need for a forum at all

This is the old "play the post and not the poster" mantra, the problem with which is nothing to do with the basic principle, but the fact that it is a counsel of perfection. Its very difficult not to take someone bluntly disagreeing with you personally, to an extent at least, but I think the majority of us manage to do so perfectly well most of the time.

It's only when posters set out to play the other poster that the "forum atmosphere" becomes toxic and its generally very easy to see that coming - in fact that's where bun was such a bad troll because he was sufficiently savvy that to those who hadn't sussed him it wasn't immediately obvious what he was up to

I've seen enough. This isn't going anywhere positive since my post above, and that's obviously been ignored so I'm closing the thread. No member should have to put up with accusations like this.

Guys, given how these threads tend to pan out, please try to keep it on track.

Right, forgive me, I'm not reading through all 24 pages that have been posted since Thursday, so i'm just going to chuck my 2p in regardless, then get back on topic.

Firstly, re Bun being a multi. I've never treated him as such, as I'd rather wait for the mods to call it. However, now it is known, I'm absolutely appalled how he 'pretended' not to know Corrin has an daughter who's his in all ways bar biological. That thread about teaching family history massively riled him, and quite offended me, but as I didn't know Bun was a multi I gave him the benefit of the doubt that it might not have been intentional. Now I'm 100% certain it was, I'd personally pay Corrins plane ticket to knock the **** out, as its the most disgusting posting I've ever seen on here, and only hindsight shows that it was massive trolling, noticeable at the time only to the victim :(

Back to Report function though. I appreciate lots of reports etc, but I still feel there is scope for a reply when its clear the post has been reported for a personal reason, eg something someone finds offensive. I'd reported a certain poster twice for something I found was offensive to me, then weeks later he's banned for that. Which gets me questioning A) Does it take that long to deal with my report, or B) Did he get banned because someone else reported it and mine was ignored. Neither fills me with confidence. The true answer was probably C) mine was noted and the next one tipped it over the edge..... But I never knew so the mods lost a notch of respect. Just a quick 2 line email would've prevented that.....

Accounts like Blaze prove he is not easy to spot at all. He has a variety of personalities at his disposal, and I for one suspected Bun was someone else.

Basically, to charge someone with being a multi we just need the computer gizmo evidence stuff. I'm not going to go into what we look for, but basically we want hard proof, not subjective opinion. With repeat offenders it is flawed, but going down the route of banning on suspicion is a slippery slope.

With regards to Bun=Precam being popular opinion, I'd say it's more who has the loudest opinion. The multi accusations were flying from the same corners they always do, and like always they had no proof other than "he posts similar to Precam and we don't like this guy." When this happens ad nauseum, we're likely to stop wheeling around to look for the wolf after a while.

I don't really care how many people feel like it's an insult to be told to ignore trolls. Time and again across the internet it has been proven that if they get no bites, they either troll harder and remove the benefit of the doubt, or they move on to happier hunting grounds.

Bun was provided the perfect smokescreen by some members. At first he got warnings when he was the instigator and others reacted, but then others began actively seeking him out, and trolling from one end became the usual internet bickering. The ratio of reported posts regarding Bun vs those regarding a select group of members was at least 5/6:1 and it wasn't a bunch of Indian posters spamming us with those reports. When we have that kind of rubbish to sift through, most of it members laying the bait for Bun, I feel very little sympathy for those complaining to us that we had the gall to tell them to stop looking for fights.

There is no doubt in my mind the member reaction to Bun slowed us down.

As I said above, we're all ears when it comes to forum atmosphere if you can get enough people on board. When the staff came to us and presented their case (complete with a classic Burgey rant) we agreed and took action. All I've heard for the past few months is "Bun is Precam" not "Bun is a drag on forum atmosphere." There was a lot of talk about giving him the forum atmosphere ban amongst the moderators, but it's extremely difficult to justify when Bun is trolling less than certain other members.

I need to go to dinner now, so I'll be back later.
yeah this guy knows what he is talking about even i was called a bun multi for the first few weeks i was here

You know, I doubt that completely. I'm guessing its 24 pages of people bitching about bans, mods failing to give answers people want, poor jokes and Jono.

If it was any of those things the thread wouldn't still be open.

I read the first 10 pages at the time and wondered why it was....

Supposed the bitching has been civilized. And Jono's hasn't offended anyone (ie not posted)
