It all makes sense now. The innate ramblings, the nonsensical posts - you're actually 7 years old!

I will tell that to the parents who encourage them to support that organisation, especially considering they love to ramble on about how much passion and heart the club has I feel it's my right, nay duty, to educate them that it's all full of ****.
Thanks. You've just proven my point that it's entirely subjective.

If you could factually argue otherwise you'd have a point. Alas, you can not refute any point I have raised.
Because who or what you support is in the eye of the supporter.

I think India are the new-monied trash of world cricket who have enjoyed five minutes of success yet strut around like they've dominated longer than the Roman Empire did.

Others think they have a proud history.

You look at the Swans and hate them. That's your prerogative. You don't see them as a "team" or "club" because of how they structure themselves or whatever. Their supporters see them as something different. There isn't a right or wrong. Their supporters look at them and see a team which generally busts its arse every week and will put in even if they're getting lapped. That's spirit, and their fans admire it.

Your effusive praise of all thngs AFL is so parochial it's ridiculous. You've done nothing in this thread but attempt to transmogrify the traits of a sport whose peak is a domestic competition in one country, to another sport which is played in every country on earth. Again, there is no right or wrong. What works for one sport won't work in another.

You need to travel. There is some, albeit it little, hope that it may broaden your mind.

This has ventured into really strange territory. Isn't the fact of the matter that ALL clubs are franchises?

I think Benchy is drawing a distinction between teams that are just placed into a city or area by a governing body, and those which are still in their traditional base.

In AFL or NRL it's arguable, but not in English association football (with one hideous exception). A bored Arab billionaire couldn't just decide to bid for an EPL franchise from scratch, he's have to buy an existing club and that club runs the risk that they might be relegated next year.

If a team starts from scratch (a la AFC Wimbledon or FC United of Manchester) they have to begin from the bottom of the pyramid structure and work their way up.

Firstly you have absolutely no idea about my traveling experience.

And second of all you're spouting rubbish about a sport you have no idea about at all. You have no idea about the history, the in fighting, the tensions... Anything. You're a classic Sydney jonny come lately who thinks he knows what he's talking about, when you're actually just arguing on the lines that you like the team. Supporters like you are the exact reason why I hate the swans more than just the soulless corporation reason. Your knowledge of the sport, like your contemporaries is limited to 'Go goodesy go!! Wow that kieran jack is the best player of this decade!'.

Talk about the structure of the league. I'm fine with that, just don't enter into a debate which you have **** all knowledge about.

If he wanted to call them soulless that's one thing, but all Australian football clubs ARE franchises to the best of my knowledge. If the AFL decided tomorrow that Collingwood, NM, Richmond etc didn't deserve a license for the 2012 they wouldn't be playing in the league. Same thing could happen in the NRL. Would be an obviously ridiculous move, but the league controlls the licenses so it technically could happen.

No it couldn't. There is legal framework to stop this exact thing from happening.

Legal framework notwithstanding, the plight of South Melbourne or Fitzroy fans is (IMHO) one of the most compelling arguments against franchises.

The fans of those clubs are cut off at the knees.

You so easily go from the mildly amusing, happy go lucky Murphy, to a complete **** whenever anyone has a contrary view on AFL, of all thngs.

Got a Sherrin-shaped dummy you spit out or something?

My experience of AFL is, I'm sure, far less extensive than yours. So what? Like yours of cricket is far less extensive than mine. Likewise the law.

Who the **** do you think you are to tell someone who or what they can't support, or who or what they can't have an opinion on?

You can be a funny ****, Darren, but you're in for a ****ing short career in the law if this is the way you react to contrary viewpoints.

I dunno about the AFL but in the NRL there certainly isn't.
Well lucky we're talking about AFL here.

For that to happen it has to be voted on and passed by the members (depending on individual club structures)... Or the AFL have to be convinced the club can not meet their off field and/or on field commitments.

If the AFL had the power to do what they wanted it would be called the Golf Coast Kangaroos.

Who was the one who brought into question ones personal experiences and travel??

And now who's bringing into contention ones prospective career and inabilty to do it?

I've been surrounded by leagues who's tag line Everytime I say I follow the afl is 'oh derrr gay fl!!! Hahahaha'.

Pretty sure this registers high on the 'I don't give a **** charts' mate.

Anyways, why are we ben talking about this? I think we can both agree north will belt Sydney this weekend and move on.

How come South Melbourne got moved and Fitzroy merged then? Serious question.

I'd find it very doubtful the respective members of the clubs would've voted for the either. Turkeys, Christmas, etc
