I think pant is already one of the top 5 Indian batsman. His average is very good considering his batting position and his Sena average is close to 40 (around 37 ).
First of all, how is 37 close to 40??
Also considering his batting position is easier he actually needs to average a lot more to topple an opener like Sehwag.

I don't think I will have Pant over Pataudi or Umrigar or Ganguly or even Rahane really; let alone Viswanath, Amarnath, Vengsarkar, Azhar and Pujara. Having him over Laxman, Hazare and Sehwag is brainrot.

Would take Pant over Rahane I think, and probably Pataudi. The rest, no.

Pataudi is kinda Great, though I admit largely for his captaincy. I think I have him over Umrigar. I don't think there's anyone else to average sub 35, but average 40+ vs both Australia and England, top 2 teams of his Era bowling wise; even 50+ to them away.

Without the eye accident he probably ends up as better than Umrigar for me.

Without the accident is speculation. He may have a much higher ceiling, might as well be what actually turned out. Umrigar and MAK have exactly opposite records, as per performance against teams, and I prefer Tiger's

There is a huge gap in FC record too though
I largely don't count Ranji runs very much really. They tend to be quite wacky at times. Though they were probably truer back then and it's true that Umrigar has a good FC record in England IIRC. I actually rank them next to eachother, prefer Pataudi for having a much superior record to Australia and England, both home and away; which I value more than Umrigar's WI and NZ supremacy.

Since their sample size is relatively low, I place higher weight than usual for FC stats while conparing these players.
