Ravichandran Ashwin retires from international cricket

make flatter pitches and win through kuldeep's accuracy/variations and bumrah's reverse as well as jaiswal, gill, pant putting up massive scores.

sort of like the mid 2000s-early 2010s where ind did similar with kumble and zaheer.
Kuldeep getting sustained opportunities in test is long overdue. Hope he becomes a permanent fixture now. But then again, if we want to keep popping up our hapless batting, he might still be behind Axar and Washington in the pecking order.

I am massively angry with the direction of Indian Cricket in last few months .
Ashwin retires after 1 bad home series whereas Rohit and Kohli are still in the team after doing nothing for 5 years .

Number of MoS awards in Test
Ashwin: 11( World record )
Kohli: 3
Rohit :1
Guess which player had to retire after 1 bad series.
Ironically Ashwin has to retire because those two are so **** and we are tempted to pick Jadeja and Washington over him for their batting.

Whatever it takes!!!
Looks like this was on his mind from even before the home season started, going by what one of his friends posted on instagram. Apparently he wanted to pull the plug after the NZ series as well. So I am assuming at some level, the physical demands of international cricket and whether he was upto it now at this age also must have factored in. It was obvious this season esp. that his later spells kept getting worse and worse when even the year before, it was not the case.

I genuinely thought he was younger than 38.

Still, a bit of a shock. Kudos to him, when you're done you're done, but seems premature based on his form not that long ago.

I don't know much about him, but is he susceptible to emotional decisions? Is he going to unretire like Pak bros often do?

Those 4 BGTs Ashwin played huge role.

2017 - Saved Ind's ass in Bangalore 4th innings and then bowled well in Dharamsala 3rd innings
2018 - Played in only Adelaide. Helped with a partnership with Pujara and then bowled well in both innings.
2020 - Was great with the ball in MCG and then saved SCG with a sore back.
2023 - Saved the 2nd test with Axar with the bat and then bowled out Aus with Jadeja with the ball.

One half of the most lethal spin duo in Asia ever, and eventually evolved into a solid option in SENA.

He will not be replaced easily and achieved so much.
