impossible to separate Lara and Richards. I’d rate both above Sobers and all in the top six of all time.

very hard to separate Gavaskar and Chappell.

Then you'd be comprehensively and hilariously wrong.
when you’re at that level the difference is inches and I rate the eras that Richards and Lara played in much higher than the 60s which was the most insipid decade for test cricket. Virtually no bowlers of quality

Confirming Sobers has an inch on Viv and a few inches on Lara

the 50s and 60s get marked down dramatically, I think sometimes too much tbh. Guys like Davo, Benaud, Truman, Statham, Hall, Gibbs etc were more than decent. Wasn’t what you’d call a bright and breezy era, mind.

Sobers was head and shoulders the best player of his era, Barrington nws. I take into account the manner in which he scored his runs in making that judgment. Was a stand out in a pretty dour era.

Richards I rate the best of his era but each of GC and SG were very close to him, albeit with different MOs.

Lara and Tendulkar were also virtually level, both brilliant players.
