Warne had a broken toenail, Compton had an inflammed knee which made the media discuss if he'll ever even play Cricket again.Like Warne in India
I mean this reminds me of what I brought up in the Marshall thread.Warne had a broken toenail, Compton had an inflammed knee which made the media discuss if he'll ever even play Cricket again.
If you look into these runs, you'd find out he managed to score against Keith Schmidt, Keith Dollery, Doug Ring, Alan Walker, Jack Laver etc, all his quality runs came against nobodies with no test career so clearly not test standard, and his quality FC runs are before the first match where the knee issue was reported.I mean this reminds me of what I brought up in the Marshall thread.
1950-51 Ashes tour
4 tests 8 innings 53 @ 7.57
8 tour matches 13 innings 829 @ 92.11 4 tons 2 fifties
Amazing how it only flared up during the tests.
Read the edit. And he scored 115 against Miller after the first test lol and in fact his knee was first reported as swelling up on the boat ride over lol. Conveniently intermittent for him.If you look into these runs, you'd find out he managed to score against Keith Schmidt, Keith Dollery, Doug Ring, Alan Walker, Jack Laver etc, all his quality runs came against nobodies with no test career so clearly not test standard, and his quality FC runs are before the first match where the knee issue was reported.
Yeah but most of those were before the first test, his issues weren't reported until then iirc, or atleast he wasn't dropped, plus Miller bowled 11 out of the 117 overs in the hundred you're mentioning and we both know about his FC workload were Doug Ring, Geff Noblet and Alan Walker. He was also only dropped after the first test for the second test.Read the edit. And he scored 115 against Miller after the first test lol
idk seems like his knee was fine in the lead up to the first test and during.Yeah but most of those were before the first test, his issues weren't reported until then iirc, or atleast he wasn't dropped, plus Miller bowled 11 out of the 117 overs in the hundred you're mentioning and we both know about his FC workload were Doug Ring, Geff Noblet and Alan Walker. idk, seems pretty clear cut to me on what happened.
Not really, even months prior to it there were serious concerns about his knee and if he will ever be able to play Cricket properly again, this is from months before during the boat story.idk seems like his knee was fine in the lead up to the first test and during.
“His famously damaged knee had swollen up after making another century – 115 vs an Australian XI” - first mention I can find after the boat story
“Denis Compton was fit again and replaced the ailing John Dewes, but Gilbert Parkhouse stayed in the team thanks to his fighting 28 at Melbourne and 92 against New South Wales. Australia kept the same team from the Second Test”
Just seems like an excuse like Sachin’s elbow aye
I am no fan of Kohli'sI commend your ability to hate, it truly surpasses my own.
but Here's another fun stat
Kohli comeback arc
0 matches, 0 @ 00.0, 0 tons 0 fifties
Compton Feb 1954 - Dec 1956
20 matches, 1,636 @ 60.6, 3 tons 9 fifties.
etc. Kohli fans would die for this, including @capt_Luffy
Meh if it was that big a problem he shouldn’t/wouldn’t have played, like in the second test.BLOW TO ENGLISH CRICKET.
The "Daily Mall's" writer, Alex Bannister, commenting on the news of Compton's knee injury, says:
"It ts the saddest blow English Cricket has had to suffer in many years. It means that England's chances of regaining the Ashes from Australia are seriously weak-ened If Compton's Test career ls finished. It is as if Hobbs had been cast off In his prime, or Bradman had been deprived of the last 10 Years of his cricket life."
some men are stubborn (I'd know), one of the dudes making 1, 9, 8, 5 was probably the enabler, he probably shouldn't have played though. but at the end, between unproven fodder meatshield (Dewes) and a proven fodder meatshield (an injured Compton), most teams would play the latter. Other than that one series, he was quite a bit ahead of Kohli of last 5 yearsMeh if it was that big a problem he shouldn’t/wouldn’t have played, like in the second test.
Also wonderful example of media sensationalism that
