He only played one game against NZ, which was ruined by rain and two Test matches vs Sri Lanka that season, before injury forced him out.If I recall Mfuneko Ngam only played one Series against NZ and he was super fast. Hayward was also fast. I'd say from 99 to 03 Hayward was the fastest. In recent times Hardus Viljoen is currently the quickest IMO. He's seriously quick.
There was a series some years back against NZ in NZ where Malinga was seriously quick. Think he clocked 150kph+ in the tests and ODIs. Destroyed NZ on a few occasions in that series as well. That has to be a measurement error? Always seemed like he would be in the mid 140s when he was at his quickest.
True. Murray Webb (who is an excellent cartoonist) was also express, but lacked control. His bowling action was known to be a bit suspect though.
Yeah Malinga was seriously express when the stars aligned, I feel like he had a longer run up at the time too. There was a series some years back against NZ in NZ where Malinga was seriously quick. Gary Bartlett (NZ quick from the 60s) was faster than Bond

This old guy used to tell me about Bartlett being quicker than Bond too.The only video I could find has been taken down from YouTube as of writing. It was (I think) a film version of "Men in White: The History of New Zealand International Cricket". It showed two or three deliveries part way through the video; they were recorded on a home movie camera, and they did look quite suspect.
Apparently, this is a picture of him bowling:

Yeah a lot of the Aussie blokes who faced him said he bowled quickest spells they faced. He'd have been an awesome asset in a side which had two other metronomic quicks and a solid enough spinner. Just let him loose. He lacked control, but I doubt there have been too many quicker English bowlers than big Devon Malcolm.
