I agree, I reckon Eddies tops. But like you say, a cricket personality should do the medal.

Eddie will probably be Ch 9 boss this time next year and wont be able to host it as well.

In a test career with a bowling average of 37 and 38 vs Australia means that he must have got smashed every other game of his career....
Smashed - on occasion.
Stoned - more frequently.

Yeah, Ponting's an idiot. Australian's have been known for their sense of humour. We've been making fun of the poms for years about their inability to win the Ashes, they've finally won it now, and Ponting can't take the jokes...Maybe he's still got in the back of his mind that he will be forever known that he was the captain that let the Ashes slip.
yea Ponting reaction was uncalled for TBH, just shows how much it hurt him. But the point he made about it he didn't mind it coming from one of the blokes who actually played in the ashes win rather than someone who did nothing much really (other than one game that comes to my mind right away) againts AUS in the past is was a fair one...

Whatever it takes!!!
There is an article on SMH where the author is very severe on the current Aussie side for its inability to laugh at themselves even when they lose. He mentioned Doug Walters and his side as the opposite and that they were the REAL Aussies.

Why did they play 6 tests in that series? Was there any specific reason or did they just try it out?
The Ashes played in England was a 6 test series all through the 80's and 90's.....dunno why they stopped it.

I honestly do not know why I didn't remember that, because I even saw that 6th test where Tuffnell went nuts scalping plenty of wickets when I was young.

Thanks.

The 1997 series was the only time during the 90's I actually thought we were going to lose the Ashes. Losing the 1st Test did not help with the confidence!

But I digress....

Ponting is an absolute tightwad. Loosen up and just remember what Tuffers said when we win the Ashes back later this year!:D

Wasn't even a twinkle in me daddy's eye, I would say.

But it was only a 7 test series because of the Melbourne washout in 70/71?

I realised that as soon as I typed it - yes.

However it does make a mockery of your:

"certainly much better than any cricketing contribution he ever made..."

If the AB Medal night is supposed to be a night of back slapping and some kind of holy and pure Aussie experience (In Pontings eyes), then why on earth was Tuffnell talking in the first place?

What were they expecting? Mother in law jokes?

CA must have thought it would be light entertainment, full well knowing what Tuffers was going to do, being a Pom and all.

Obviously, they didn't think half the Aussie team would take it seriously.
