Kallis would struggle to make the top 5 bats in the early mid 2000s. Ponting, Dravid, Lara and even Hayden would have been rated ahead of him at that point.

Kallis' home conditions were tougher and Ponting kept failing the spin test in India. So it's advantage Kallis based on this table. I don't know if this is the peak for both of them though.
According to the 5 year peak thread their peaks were respectively..

Ponting - 08 Nov 2001 - 01 Dec 2006
Kallis - 07 Sep 2001 - 16 Nov 2007

Personally in my head I’ve kinda started to think that peaks should be defined by beginning/end of series rather than particular matches. Then again injuries can happen too

But for those periods we’ve got

Ponting (full NZ series 01/02 - midway through 05/06 Ashes)

60 matches 105 innings 6409 @ 72.82 25 tons 21 fifties

79.64 @ home 64.65 @ away/neutral

Kallis (full series, SA vs Zim through to SA vs NZ)

61 matches 108 innings 6245 @ 72.61 22 tons 29 fifties

70.26 @ home 75.88 away
