Ok well ALL teams have taken part in a First Class Friendly Tri-Series Tournament to get the season underway..

All teams were randomly drawn up against 2 other opponents and played a 3 game series Home and Away against each opponent as a warmup to the season proper..

Well pretty much got most of my intended first XI but based on the performances I might have to change what I intended.

Not the 1st XI i'd have picked but encouraging signs from some of the players.
Woodcock, Pradeep and Norman are the pick of the bowlers. Waragoda, Dharmani the most consisent batsmen.

Some encouraging performances, and some areas of concern. Both the opposition teams were from a lower league so it would have been dissapointing not to come out on top.

The batting (bar Midlane - 942@49.58) was abysmal, although the first team is expected to contain extra strength than on display here.

Bowlingwise there were definately some positives, Mongia showed he hasn't lost it with 57 wickets at 13.07 and Diawn (51@14.71) looked a decent acquisition. Freeman was the star of the show with 10 five wicket hauls in 12 matches, taking 88 wickets at 10.17. His 31@5.81 in the home series against Karachi was a particularly decent effort.

Fernando chipped in well with the ball, but is unlikely to get a game this year, therefore it was dissapointing that Weerakoon did not get a bowl despite playing every game. The mananagment may have to consider whether an extra seamer is a better choice.

The second team did not perform as well, but they were up against some strong sides and will improve no end once Roberts gets his hands on them.

Good workout, realised we probably need another second XI batter from somewhere, and we should play a spinner in place of Bhandari. Batsmen likely to be rotated.

As for Karachi 2nds. To convincingly win the mini tournament against a team in the 1st Div and another in the 2nd is a good sign for our strength in depth.

Jaffer and Richardson especially were the pick of the batters. Young Aamer looks to be a superb acquisition as the 3rd Keeper. Louw, Pandit, Cook and on occaision the rookie Monaghan impressed with the ball.

Should hopefully get promoted based on these results :).

On closer inspection, the results are a lot better than first looked. Some of the losses were very close, the bowling attack was somewhat unusual and the guest appearance of Shoiab Akhtar (where'd he appear from) did little to help.

The two most important bowlers for the seconds this year will probably be Engineer and Nawab. One was criminally underbowled coming on 3rd change and the other never appeared, his spin would have been very useful.

There is also the likes of Jones who didn't get a game but is better than the likes of Bhandari or Crawford. The batting was very understrength, lacking the likes of Aronstam and Reza who should be available and Fernando who would add strength to the lower order and is a decent bowler.

Positives
We won the series
Bowling attack went well
batting was poor - but 2 of our best batsman were left out

Negatives
the opposition was from div 3
batting was poor

all in all plenty for WA to work on for the upcoming season, but deffinatly some encouraging signs

An 8-2-2 record for WCC Auckland. Can't really complain there.

The batting looks a bit of a concern, but the bowling is right about where I hoped it would be. It's sufficient quality to fight back into a game from any position it seems. Now if only the batting would click, Auckland would be exactly where I want them heading into the season.

Worth noting the magnitude of Dwayne Leverock's stardom... and of Dwayne Leverock himself.

EDIT: The second XI... not so great...

Bowling looks good but the batting needs to improve and be more consistent when the season starts.

If that is any sign for the season our batsman are really going to have to pick up their effort. However, with some of our stronger batsman unavailable for the friendlies we'll be hoping for a better performance come season proper.

Not reading anything in those results as they were no where near what our sides are going to look like.

I am not trying to be critical (as there maybe a completely resonable reason) but SA's 1st round draft pick Binny who has a FC bowling average of 15 or something bowled a grand total of 3 overs in 12 FC games (taking 2wkts for 4 runs in the process).

The guy is supposed to be our star bowler and he averaged 1.5 BALLS per game.
He can't bat for toffee so it must have been the easiest match fee he has ever picked up:dry:

Anyway, besides that, good effort in getting this all together.and Im really looking forward to the season. Looks like I will have my work cut out given the results from SA 2nds

hampshire went well in my opinion.. gives us a good indication before the season gets going..although we would definately face tougher opposition..
