Pre-1970 vs post-1970 World XI??

Out of the post-1970 quicks, I believe there isn't much separating McGrath, Lillee, Marshall, Ambrose, Donald, Steyn, Wasim, Waqar & Hadlee. I'd rank them all as gold-tier.

Yes. Holding and McGrath had the ability to bowl long stretches at the same elevated level of hostility.

Well as Donald Trump said when told John McCain was a war hero, that he preferred his War Heroes not get shot down and caught, the same argument could be said for preferring bowlers who bowl opposition side out quickly instead of demonstrating their endurance of bowling long stretches

Come to think of it, I'm having a hard time justifying to myself the exclusion of Imran, Kapil, Willis & Beefy to the post-1970 gold tier. And probably some other bowlers once I remember them.

Yes the pre team has Bradman, and Sobers but the post '70's has Marshall, McGrath, and the best old ball bowler of all time. And not only do bowlers win matches, but more importantly over the history of the game, they've impacted the performances of batsmen, than the other way round.

Australia had the strongest batting line up ever and was still reluctant to bat Gilly at 6 to strengthen the bowling.
