Speaking exclusively to Times Now, Chappell said, "He (Sachin) has been an outstanding player. And to be an outstanding player for such a long time takes a lot of things. But for a long part of his career he was the best batsman in the world. I don't think he is that anymore. I think Ricky Ponting has taken that role over now."I wonder why people still thought Ponting was better (or in better form) than Tendulkar in late 2009. Mind you, I haven't read the article or the context for Chappell's comments.
But Ponting wasn't the best batsman in the world in late 2009. I think he played well in the CT '09 win, though. Maybe he was referring to ODIs, because neither of them were the best Test batsmen in the world at that point. Especially since this was a buildup to an ODI series.Speaking exclusively to Times Now, Chappell said, "He (Sachin) has been an outstanding player. I think he meant it as at then, as opposed to overall. Was just before the ODI series in India, October 09.
might wanna see how many lives he got in that... or the ****oo land of statsguru's rules don't allow any FACTS other than the ones noted down in the books...
Obviously, one need not EVER watch cricket matches to decide who is going to win a particular match. All you need is Statsguru..
That is EXACTLY what I said.
Yeah I know, I'm just telling you the context of the article is all.But Ponting wasn't the best batsman in the world in late 2009. I think he played well in the CT '09 win, though. Imo Ian Chappell is wrong.
So you saw the match? That is EXACTLY what I said.
yeah.. well...You're replying to a post from like over a year ago
Have Australia won any tests since then? Could be a bit tricky. Can Some one come up with a list of hundreds that ponting scored in a match winning cause ever since Warne and McGrath retired and then this discussion could be taken to a different plane.
I have taken quite a liking to statsguruCan Some one come up with a list of hundreds that ponting scored in a match winning cause ever since Warne and McGrath retired and then this discussion could be taken to a different plane.
If not, I will dig that up later. I need to catch a flight now.
Also, someone come up with a list of hundreds made by Sachin in a match where he also bowled an over on an inclemently cool Tuesday. Can Some one come up with a list of hundreds that ponting scored in a match winning cause ever since Warne and McGrath retired...
How many match winning hundreds did Tendulkar make before India got some seamers who only got the ball to bounce once? Can Some one come up with a list of hundreds that ponting scored in a match winning cause ever since Warne and McGrath retired and then this discussion could be taken to a different plane.

This. How many match winning hundreds did Tendulkar make before India got some seamers who only got the ball to bounce once?
You can score a squillion, but if you don't take 20 wickets it won't be a match winning knock.
Haha, so Dhoni must develop precognizance and name Tendulkar only if India are going to bat first Also iirc, Tendulkar played two series winning knocks immediately after that in the tri series final, didn't he?
I think his last Test hundred at Cape Town actually fulfills those criteria. Came on a Tuesday IIRC, and he bowled a few overs (even picked up a wicket) in that game. Also, someone come up with a list of hundreds made by Sachin in a match where he also bowled an over on an inclemently cool Tuesday.
Outside the subcontinent.
