Players Who You Predicted Would Be Great................

Others, shoaib, wasim etc have done much worse but were never punished like that. The basic reason is that people who ruin cricket in Pak dont have faith in M Akram.

Completely agreed, infact i had a feeling that u would refer to Akhter's act.He has the worst diciplinary record , yet always escapes punishment.

Mushtaq Ahmed - the **** leggie . Actually quite a good bowler but never had a long run in the national team.

Murray Goodwin - very talented batsman but he threw personal interests ahead of national duties. Think he could earned more fame & recognition the latter way.

Nayan Mongia - wonderful keeper but his batting flopped. Thought he was in for more after his 152 against Aus in 96 but he fell away by the wayside. No longer required....

Blewy

Cricketer Of The Year
Greg Blewett: Sure things may not be over yet but it seems that Blewwy will most likely be remembered as a guy who could have been a world beater but didn't make it. Once again, he seemed to have the game to do it; a great pull shot, excellent temperament, glorious flowing drives and could bowl too. Since he was an opener at Sheffield Shield level, I think the biggest mistake the Aussie selectors ever made was batting him at 6 and expecting him to bowl.
Here Here to that....

Those Stupid Aussie selectors destroyed one of the all-time Greats!!!!

I would agree with Darren Lehmann. He should have played more test cricket than he has.

One guy I could suggest is Marlon Samuels from the WI. On the last tour of Australia he showed great temperament when a lot of the more senior batsmen faltered. He can't get a look in now. He is still very young and I'm sure will be back.

I think Mongia suffered because India try and insist on opening with their wicket keepers. Even a guy with the class of Gilchrist bats at 7.

Well,
Muhammad Zahid remember anyone? Off all i remember of him he was quick and accurate. Had the Windies and the aussies jumping in the W Series in 96, A real prospect but was let down by injuries.
Another player which atleast i thought was on his way to greatness was Amir Sohail, together with Saeed Anwar he formed one of the best opening pairs, had the temperament, the killer instincts but i guess politics destroyed him up.

Another addition to the list upon watching my Ashes '97 video is Matthew Elliott. What happened to him. He had it all as an opening batsman; sound defense, cuts, drives, hooks and pulls up there with the best (okay his hook was suspect sometimes but most times he put the ball out of the park).

The only reason as I see it was a defensive weakness outside of off-stump which guys like Pollock and Curtly were able to exploit. Realistically there was little else that was weak in his technique.

What a shame. He was such a gorgeous player to watch.

I think Elliott never recovered from 'that' injury, and combined with how hard it is to break back into the team - I believe he tried to hard once he got his chance again and tried to pick up where he left off - didn't work - all gone

same could be said for Slats - I know he is already got a great record etc but the way he has declined leaves me with a feeling of things left undone or gone too soon (add Dean Jones to that as well as Blewy)

Kenny Rutherford is a guy that comes to mind as never having reached the heights he should have.

Brettrick Shultz, he should've been great. He made McGrath look like Gavaskar with the bat but, boy could he get the ball down the other end in a hurry.

Mfuneko Ngam, though there's still time for him. He's back for Natal this season, hopefully he's got those bags of pace left and they're feeding him plenty of milk.

Richard Snell, up and down too much. Could also smack a cricket ball to all ends of the park if he felt like it, Andrew Hudson would maybe fit in there as well.

Goolam Bodi, he fooled us all down here in SA. Next big spinning hope for many a year, now he can't even get 1st class games.

Kambli, I think he'd be on a lot of people's lists

Neil McKensie & Dale Benkinstein, both burdened with the "Being groomed for the captaincy" ball and chain of doom

Ian Bishop, Azhar Mahmood, Alan Mullaly, Geoff Allott, and my ICC entry Morris Bulbeck

Jon Kent, one of the classiest batsmen in the U19 World Cup when it was in SA, can bowl a bit too. Highly regarded at one time, has fallen away since.

Hmm, I got quite a bit wrong didn't I, that's why I'm not "a scary judge of talent" and Al Pachino is.

Wow...just like Chris Schofield

The difference being that at least Chris Schofield still terrorises virtual batsmen in ICC, whereas Goolam doesn't even manage that.

Basit Ali - I saw this batsman in the 92 tour of WI by Pak and he appeared very impressive to me.Not sure what happened to him, but I really thought that this was one hell of a player of fast bowling who could be a star.

KP Bhaskar - I still feel sorry for this guy.He was the most prolific scorer in first class cricket in India in the 80s and he looked very good too.Modeled himself on Vishy and was very stylish.Never got a chance to play test cricket.

Sami and Samuels are two current cricketers who I thought would be awesome but have yet to do very well. Particularly Samuels, who I thought would be the right-hand Lara.:(
