Players who would have had better careers for different countries

Silver Silva

International Vice-Captain
It'd be touch and go. Fleming's 14-year career was 111 tests and looking at Katich's FC career span, he'd probably be around in tests for about 13 years.

He definitely makes it for England though. Katich did manage 56 tests for Australia, after all.
I was undecided about England because they had a pretty good depth of openers in the 2000's, Trescothick, Strauss , Vaughan , Cook ..There could have been a possibility where Katich was overlooked even if he was slightly better than the names above and ended up with more or less the same amount of tests like what happened to Graeme Swann.

This is not in reference to cricket infrastructure and quality of set up. More in reference to playing In a different country's conditions and in a different team set up.

First name that comes to mind is Kapil Dev who would have been regarded much higher as a bowling AR if he played for England.
Kagiso rabada,
If he played for england, he would have crossed the highest wicket tally of Muralidharan.

If Katich were English and his career arc mirrored that of Australia he wouldn't have been considered for opening at all - he was a middle order batsmen first.

Assuming Rabada debuts at the same time, he’d have played 103 tests by now - assuming he’s playing the same percentage of available tests. Assuming same WPM that’s 481 wickets. That would be 69 more wickets than Murali at the same age.

Yeah but he isn't going to get the same wickets as he gets at home in SA.

I mean yeah. I could try and work out exactly what his average might look like by percentage of England’s games played wherever but **** that.

He’d still be taking 5 wpm presumably in England so similar wicket tally. Playing in India more assuming he bowls the same there would also be detrimental to his overall record.

I like that you bolded part of the quote and ignored the part that completely disagrees with you. Veteran effort.
You said it's the "whole premise". I highlighted the part that wasn't.

Maybe look up the dictionary definition of "whole"

Had Rahul Dravid played for England, would have had the opportunity to play more than 50% of his career matches in English conditions. Could have ended up with career average of close to 60 or more in tests.

Not possible ,
because he had to play so many Ashes matches in Australia where he struggled the most, so 60+ career average is not possible.

Probably would've been dropped at random times by England selectors or made to keep.

Would definitely have been made opener.

Is it?

"More in reference to playing In a different country's conditions and in a different team set up."
He didn’t play much for India so we assume without Ashwin blocking him he would play more for a different team yes. In both that country’s conditions and set up.

Martin Crowe if he'd been Australian. Wouldn't have debuted at 19 did like he did as a Kiwi, and would've had access to the best rehab/orthopaedic surgeons etc. for knee rehab. Probably would've played until the end of the 90s and finished with stats similar or better to/than Border and Steve Waugh.
Stole my thunder. I've always maintained Crowe would have averaged 55+ if born Australian, and even with the same injuries would have played a similar number of Tests despite debuting aged 22-23 & not 19 as with NZ.

I suspect he would have seriously dominated those relatively weak English Ashes attacks of the mid 80s to mid 90s.

Kuldeep isn't really gonna get better bowling conditions than those in India.

If he were a regular for the Indian team, his records/performances would almost certainly be better for India than if he were a regular in another team, playing against the same opposition.
