Players who got figured out

I enjoyed his stuff. Certainly, he never came across as the abusive type.
I enjoyed his posts too (well, most of them anyway - the Murali stuff frustrated me like nothing else, even those arguing that batsmen should be credited for dropped catches) but sadly he tended to throw around one insult too many - even though I daresay he generally regretted it later.

Without being preachy on my part of course.

Hey fellas. OK...what have I missed?
Not much really, F1ery. If I'd been here longer, I think I'd describe the last couple of months as 'the usual'. A few toys out of the pram from various parties, a bit of cricket and some battles. Good to see you back.... thought you'd 'left' though as much as being banned.

Thanks. Needed the break tbh

You don't, surely, mean to say that the endless spate of Imran threads are commonplace?

Johnny Gleeson - the mystery spinner from Australia.

Once players got around his mystery he looked ordinary. The fact that he still managed to play 29 test matches shows Australia's lack of spinningoptions in the late sixties. But Mallett should have played more often. They did play both Mallett and Gleeson in many matches.

Unfair stereotype IMO. Irani was a decent cricketer, no more, no less, and that's pretty well all anyone ever thought he was going to be. He cops far more stick than he deserves, AFAIC, the way people make-out he was a nobody masquerading as a superman. There have been many, many worse cricketers to play ODIs for England in the last 10 years.

Mark Taylor. After Akram trouled him over the wicket in 1989-90, the Poms went around the wicket in 1990-91 and he had a lean series, followed by a worse one in 1992-93 v WI, leading to his being dropped for the last test.

He was the last in the line of cursed VCs under AB, all of whom got dropped at one point or another while VC:

Hilditch
Boon
Marsh
Tubby.

He cops it because he was such a dickhead on the field.

Its why players like Sree, Nel and others, when out of form and not performing, will cop more than a quiet player.

Mind you, I think Irani was a joke for various reasons. He is just one of those cricketers I don't like seeing play at international level. By that I mean a combination of:

a) ugly
b) ugly to watch bowl
c) ugly to watch bat
d) acts like a wanker

Was just too much to take.

I remember the crowd getting on really well with him, at one of the ODIs I was at anyways.
