Root 5 (docked one for captaincy)
Malan 6
Ali 2
Bairstow 6
Woakes 7
Overton 6 1/2
Broad 7 1/2

Root, Malan, Bairstow and all showed a lot of spirit but ultimately they still dealt with pretty 40s and 50s which are useless unless one of them sticks around.

Bancroft 1
Warner 5
Khawaja 5 1/2
Smith 2 (docked 2 for captaincy)
Handscomb 1
S. Marsh 9

Bancroft 3.5 - Dudded by Warner 1st innings, got a good delivery 2nd innings but tends to make those deliveries unplayable due to squaring up.
Warner 5.5 - Helped Oz get a solid start in difficult conditions in 1st innings but his 2nd innings was very defensive by his standards and a misjudgement considering the match situation.
Khawaja 7 - His 1st day 50 has been largely forgotten but was invaluable in setting up Oz in 1st innings; lazy 1st innings dismissal was frustrating though
Smith 4.5 - Like the 2nd Test in India, reckon got sucked into the verbals from the opposition and was below his usual standard.
Handscomb 3 - Fought hard in 1st innings but in truth looked horribly out of sorts throughout and his technique looks a mess. Probably needs to go back to FC cricket
Marsh 9 - Outstanding temperament and innings and fully deserving of MOM honours. Looked in superb touch throughout this series.
Paine 7.5 - Justified his selection with an excellent counterattacking knock on Day 2 and excellent keeping
Starc 7.5 - tbh didn't think he bowled particularly well but can't deny he had an excellent match statstically
Cummins 8 - Incredibly unlucky not to have better bowling figures this match than he did; always lively and intense and his dismissal of Malan probably the decisive moment in the game. Should be moved up to No. 8 in the batting too
Lyon 8.5 - Probably MOS so far for mine; managed the Warnesque feat of being both a tight stock bowler who bowls so well he's treated like a strike bowler. Clearly in career-best form.
Hazlewood 7.5 - A bit patchy and below his usual standard but his superb final-day spell guaranteed the match for Australia

Cook 4.5 - Hung around longer than Brisbane but in truth his struggles this series aren't surprising considering his previous tour of Oz and he's clearly past his best. Wouldn't surprise if retires after this series
Stoneman 5 - Provided a bright start in the 2nd innings with a rash of boundaries but then got bogged down and his dismissal felt inevitable
Vince 2 - Managed to prove his reputation as someone who plays a couple of nice shots than gifts his wicket with a loose stroke outside off absolutely 100% accurate.
Root 6 - Admirable effort in the 2nd innings but never really looked in control and his bowl first decision suggested someone who knew his batting lineup isn't good enough
Malan 6 - Really fought hard against in the 2nd innings but in truth he looked a bit out of his depth as a Top 6 bat
Ali 2 - Poor match all round; very little with the bat and even less with the ball.
Bairstow 5.5 - Only England batsman to offer any resistance on Day 5. Needs to move up the order in this lineup
Woakes 6 - Significant improvement from Brisbane with bat and ball but would be disappointed that his potentially pivotal nightwatchman role counted for nought
Overton 7 - Fine debut; bowled some good spells and top-scored in the 1st innings and probably helped ensure they didn't have to follow-on.
Broad 4.5 - Bowled pretty decently in the 1st innings and has kept it tight all series, but hasn't been taking many wickets for a fair while now and wasted the new ball in the 2nd innings. Totally gone as a decent lower-order bat
Anderson 6 - Was terrific in the 2nd innings but when the match needed to be set up in the 1st innings, was disappointing (albeit a bit unlucky)

He's had better Tests over the last year tbf.

Which is not to say he wasn't superb, but he's had a pretty incredible year.

Norwood's on Fire
Anderson went missing in the first innings when the match was up for grabs, did well on the downhill slope when the match was lost.
Bowling when 200 runs behind facing Dave Warner is downhill skiing now? Noted

How can people still criticise Jimmy amongst the most of all players? He bowled a spell that literally only one or two other bowlers could bowl, at the most! He’s clearly not as effective when the ball isn’t doing as much but he was exceptionally unlucky in the first innings and still bowled with excellent control! Not sure what people expect really. Seems people have previously judged he can’t bowl in Australia and are now just blind to the fact, or stubborn to the point they don’t want to see, that actually he’s bowled pretty well so far and gets his rewards for his accuracy and skill when the conditions are more up his street.

He had 4 wickets which were given by the umpires, only to be taken away again by DRS.

3rd Test

Bancroft 4 - got a start before being trapped LBW when Australia were in a somewhat fragile position. Also dropped an easy catch that could well have cost Australia quite a bit.
Warner 4 - same as above except instead of dropping a catch it was missing an easy run-out opportunity. Also saw off less balls.
Khawaja 6 - not particularly elegant but was still an important 50.
Smith 10 - what more can you say? As crazy as this is to say I imagine watching Bradman bat would be a lot like how I feel when Smith bats. Whenever he doesn't hit a ton it feels like a failure.
S Marsh 5 - poor shot to get out but batted for a long enough period to stabilise the Australian innings and allow the man below him to dominate.
M Marsh 9 - loses a mark for some poor bowling and a dropped catch. With the bat showed exactly why people thought he was a rare talent coming into the system, looked immense from ball one and any previous issues with his defence looked to have been fixed. Just hope this isn't an anomaly.
Paine 7 - can't really ask for much more, kept very well and managed a handy cameo at the end with the bat.
Starc 7 - again did give up a fair few pies but also took wickets. That Vince ball will be seen for a long time to come.
Cummins 7 - again bowled fairly well, not sold on the short ball strategy that we saw in the second innings though.
Lyon 6.5 - was never going to be as much of a factor at Perth as he was in the first two Tests and so it proved. Still was decent though and his wickets were all at crucial points in the game.
Hazlewood 9 - that's more like it. Was pretty much a threat the whole game unlike the first two Tests. The second innings at Perth was utterly sublime.

Cook 1 - getting worse and worse. Right now the only thing probably keeping his spot in the side is a lack of other options and his reputation.
Stoneman 5 - managed a handy 50 first dig but looked suspect when Australia dug it in short. Also failed second dig.
Vince 6 - good knock second dig. Still a bit of an issue outside off stump though.
Root 3 - just wasn't his Test. Unlucky first innings dismissal admittedly but still failed when his side needed him the most.
Malan 10 - not his fault England lost. I did not think he had this sort of Test in him, but he was sublime all Test. Just a shame about his teammates.
Bairstow 9 - also batted very well, took two peaches to get him. Kept solidly too.
Ali 2 - I suppose Perth was never going to his most favourite sort of conditions, but even then he was still very bad. Added little with the bat and I can't remember if he even looked like taking a wicket with any balls apart from the one that he actually did.
Woakes 3 - just doesn't look effective outside of swinging conditions.
Overton 6 - pick of the England bowlers. At least he looks like he tried.
Broad 1 - horror game from Broad, was absolutely ghastly with the ball. Is he finished?
Anderson 6 - wickets were kinda downhill skiing but at least wasn't bowling pies before that.

Cricket Web: All-Time Legend
Australia:
Bancroft: 4 - okay start, but he's become less and less convincing imo. A bad miss too.
Warner: 4 - also a merely okay start. He has not looked the domineering player of previous seasons at any point.
Khawaja: 6 - not a great 50 but an important one
Smith: 12 - he's gone past 11. What superlatives are left to describe this guy?
Darsh: 4 - stayed in a while but never got going and kept Smith off strike, but many a worse 28 has been played.
MMarsh: 9.5- I don't think anyone quite saw an innings that good coming. Bowling was dreadful and dropped an easy catch, although it didn't cost too much. Batting was a 10.
Paine: 7 - hard to rate. Played a nice innings and was good behind the stumps. Legs certainly got a work out with all those bouncers.
Starc: 7 - usual mix of trash and wickets, but getting rid of Stoneman, Bairstow and Vince was hugely important.
Cummins: 6 - got Root and Ali cheaply but didn't bowl anywhere near as well as before. Was too short and seemed lacking in energy in the second innings.
Lyon: 6.5 - as good as could be expected in unfavourable conditions. Two of his wickets were of paramount importance.
Hazlewood: 9 - much more like it. Accurate and also very hostile at times. Fully deserved his match haul.

England:
Cook: 1 - He's gotta be done. Finding new ways to get out.
Stoneman: 5.5 - obviously ill equipped to handle the bounce but gutsed it out to get an important 50. 2nd innings dismissal was a little soft.
Vince: 5.5 - typical dismissal first innings. Good innings second before falling victim to the crack. A better first innings would have been nicer.
Root: 3 - first innings dismissal was poor and second wasn't great. Captaincy wasn't great but Smith was unstoppable regardless.
Malan: 10 - no-one saw this coming for sure. Two brave but purposeful knocks, although a shame about the 2nd innings but the game was gone anyway.
Bairstow: 9 - also very good batting, a bit unlucky in the second innings. Keeping was solid when the ball was actually passing the bat.
Ali: 1.5 - important wicket of Darsh, but otherwise didn't even provide much control. Looked totally out of his depth with the bat.
Woakes: 3.5 - ran in hard, bowled tightly but simply not equipped for conditions outside his home country. Must take the new ball really.
Overton: 6 - got the first two wickets but became very expensive. Played on despite a broken rib though. Batting was disappointing in the first innings.
Broad: 0 - I have mixed feelings about his performance. I don't know if it was terrible or awful. No control, no threat, no presence. Tied for worst ever Ashes figures.
Anderson: 6 - yes he took the 'easy wickets' but bowled very tightly. Simply not quick enough to penetrate on such a flat surface.

Actually, maybe Broad should get 0.2 for his six. Ultimately meaningless, but what a shot it was!
