sad to read all the posts still thinking Hughes would come good

really sucks how his test form waned after the initial 2 hundreds in his first series
Jeez he'd be a walk up start into that batting line up now. :(

How old is Rahane compared to this lot? Because if he's the same age he absolutely should be in the conversation. I love watching him play.

About a few months older than Kohli (who is the oldest of the four).

Joe Root is the best, the reason I say this is because he's English and I like him the most

So what do you guys think about the fab four now?

Smith > Root > Kohli > Rahane for me.
In terms of talent and sheer batting ability Kohli's the best of the lot for me.

I think there's 2 different definitions of good batsmen, there's your 'score lots of runs consistently' good batsmen and there's 'plays ludicrous innings' batsmen. Of the recently retired generation of batsmen I'd have someone like Sangakkara in the former group and Pietersen and Clarke in the latter. Now there may be an element of big 3 bias in this but while numerically Sangakkara was the better batsman, you'll remember more innings by the latter 2.

I want to know why Rangana Herath is in this poll. Dead set love the bloke but it's a bit of a stretch to call him a "Young Fabbie"

You sure it's not to do with exposure? Sanga played some great knocks, I was pleased to see him play live twice and he was just phenomenal.

His nearly-won-it-despite-a-****-team innings vs Australia is one of the most ludicrous and memorable innings of recentish times.

Tbh I'm not sure it works the other way round either, ie Kohli playing more memorable innings. He's played a few good ones but I wouldn't say he's played anything you think the others couldn't.

I feel like this is only big 3 bias.

I'd say he has played less memorable ones than the others.
Adelaide twin tons were golden.

Not his fault the umpires robbed Rahane and Saha is horrendous to not win the match. Was still ridiculous.

Yeah, would largely agree I guess.
I'd have to disagree here. The Adelaide second innings ton was really, really special. More on point, in addition to bring a great knock on a turning track, it was the stage and circumstances... First test in Australia post Hughes, kohli's first test as Captain, the way he almost singlehandedly dragged us to a victory in a match we had absolutely no right to get anywhere close to winning, and even the way India collapsed at the end and fell short etc... Even if you don't think it's the best hundred among all the ones the four have made (I do), it has all the hallmarks of an innings that isn't going to be forgotten in a hurry.
