Bots are search engine crawlers.
Basically for those that said they didn't understand what a Bot is it is basically a search engine (yahoo, goggle etc etc) sends them out all over the net to gather information from websites to keep it's search engines upto date with what ever site has on it... basically on the forum they will read through ever single page and gather keywords that might be useful when a person searches for that term.

So basically if I select a highly random word say Cat, next time a goggle bot for example reads the pages it will pick up on the word Cat and when a user searches for cats probley on the very last page will be a link to this thread/post as it could techincally be revelvent to that person who has searched for a Cat.

Bots don't do anything to a site they get on with their job and in the long run are very good for you as it helps when people search, generally due to the vast vast number of pages on the forum you will see the bots around for about a week and then once they have finished they will just vanish and hopfully be replaced by lot of new real people :)
