Papps replaces Cumming

I don't really think there's much relevance in that at the moment.
Fulton only scored 60 runs less than Taylor which isn't that big a gap.

How many players have scored 500 runs in a domestic one day season before?

Fulton does not have a better one day average.
In the process why don't we put Brad Scott in there as well...

Not many have, but it would be better for Taylor just to play first-class cricket right now. Better than sitting on the sidelines and debut against South Africa when you aren't that badly needed yet.

And Fulton did have the better of average of the two this season.

Fulton does not have a one day average of 58.
Taylor has scored the same amount of 50's and 100's but has played 12 games less, Which means Taylor is the more talented of the two (fulton is also talented).

I don't think Ross Taylor ever entered the minds of the selectors, I think it was just all media hype.
The selectors may have discussed his form but Im pretty sure thats where it would have ended.

I think everyone learnt a valuable lesson with McCullum, its 3 years since he debuted & he's now only just beginning to show what he's capable of. Although to be fair to Taylor, he's been far more prolific with the bat than McCullum ever was at the same age with Otago.

And there aren't any spots open in the NZ middle order anyway...Hamish Marshall has cemented himself at #3 for the forseeable future & it will take a major form slump by Scott Styris for him to be removed, likewise with McMillan despite how I get so annoyed with his ridiculous shot selections.

I think the selectors have committed Papps to this South African series & then the England series in July...possibly even the ICC Trophy.
If he fails then where do they go next? Jamie How possibly?

Now you're judging talent on amount of runs scored or the difference between averages? I see your future lies as a national selector.

No iam judging talent from what i have seen from both players live, Taylor looks more confident easy and natural at the crease.
Last time I checked making runs is what batsmen are meant to do.

But despite that, Fulton has only scored 60 runs less than Taylor this season so how can you immediately say that Taylor has more talent, if you're talking in terms of runs being scored?

Well Taylor played alot on North island crap pitches, While Fulton played on most of the best pitches in the country in the South.
Also the fact that Taylor is only 19 and he has already made a huge impact.
I have seen both play Taylor just looks better.
Who would you rather have Matt Horne.

What's Matt Horne got to do with it?

Anyway, we'll see if any else agree's with what you're saying.

It's certainly too early to be selecting Taylor for the national side - we don't have a problem with the middle order at the moment. Let him develop, find out whether he can cope once the bowlers 'figure him out" next season.

Everybody can see the guy has talent, it won't hurt him to wait a while. Rutherford and Crowe were selected too early and their form suffered - Rutherford never recovered.

Remember Adam Gilchrist had to wait a long time before he was able to play for Australia and when he did he turned out to be far superior to the man he replaced, ie. Ian Healy. There's something to be said for holding a player back a while and letting him mature.

Methinks that's doing Healy a disservice.

I was talking about his average for this season. So there goes your reason for Taylor being better then.

And don't even start saying Fulton had a crap year last year, because on you criteria you are only judging on this season as you are with Taylor.
