Pant injured in car accident

honestbharani

Whatever it takes!!!
I guess he was speeding, and he has actually already been fined for that but looks like the kinda thing most 25 year olds who have expensive cars might do. I suppose he could have had a driver and been more responsible and not driven in such hours but kid was trying to surprise his mom by showing up at 6 AM to his house. ?‍♂

Cops say he wasn't speeding or DUI

He was not DUI.. he just dozed off coz of the hour apparently, but I believe he was above speedlimit, although it may not have been reckless enough to qualify as speeding the way we colloqially term it.

haven’t seen any claim anywhere that he was speeding over the limit and also not aware of what that limit is considering some highways have notoriously low speed limits that nobody ever can practically stick to

C'mon hb, you know well that Indian roads are not autobahns, they are not designed to handle that kind of speeds. Driving entails responsibility and that does not excuse Pant from driving at high speeds during peak fog hours and without wearing a seat belt.

I am not comfortable making these claims when we still dont know what speed he was actually going at etc. You can drive at a 100 and still crash if you even doze off momentarily and it is possible to doze off in spite of your best efforts to stay awake sometimes.

I still think the mature thing would have been to have either had a driver or driven at a better hour etc. but it may have been a spur of the moment decision to surprise his mom, and no one would have thought twice if he had not gotten overpowered by sleep for a few seconds.

Even if he got a driver, the driver would still be driving at 5am
Yeah but usually the hire a driver services in India have guys who are trained to drive at such hours. They tend to sleep in the mornings. I speak from experience having hired drivers to take my parents to temples as I was not comfortable driving in the nights and our schedule did not permit us driving the huge distances during the day.

Driving while tired is just as stupid and irresponsible as driving drunk, no matter the distance or the speed.

I did the exact same thing once, was on the way to my mum’s, bout a half hour away rumble strip woke me up but I was already off and then into a tree. Worst thing was, bout 10 mins before I was actually gonna stop at a rest stop cos I was feeling so sleepy but thought meh its just another 40 mins I’ll be fine.

Hope he recovers well and its always **** to have a top player out of a series.

This incident has reminded of times when taxi drivers insisted on playing loud music to avoid dozing off and I found that annoying.
I was going to Gurgaon from Delhi ( 1 hr journey due to traffic) . I booked Uber at 2:45 pm and the driver had his meal just before the journey. During 1 hr Ride he hit the Divider twice due to dozing off . Luckily nothing happened .

Rishabh Pant is unlikely to play any cricket for most of 2023 and is set to miss a slew of marquee tournaments including the IPL. ESPNcricinfo has learned that the medical update given to the BCCI on Pant, who survived a car crash on December 30, says the wicket-keeper batter has torn all three key ligaments in his knee, two of which were reconstructed recently while surgery on the third is expected after six weeks.
