Pakistan Tour of South Africa 2018/19

Not bern good for Pakistan.

Ryan Cartwright brought in as a replacement for Ruben Trumpelmann gets the 5th wicket.

112/5

Fakhar opening in SA is a recipe for disaster. By far the most logical thing to do would be to open with Shan Masood who was in great form against England lions. But its Pakistan so nothing is logical

Yeah I personally wouldn't drop him now, as one innings could reignite him - and also pave the way for a late-career resurgence.
However he has had a shocking year. Averaging under 25 with a HS of 82 is extremely poor

The alternatives may not be ready, but that doesn't mean Amla should get a pass due to that.
What was his test average the year before this?

He average 47 in 2017 and 49 in 2016, so it's a definite drop. This year has been his worst year for test batting as he only average 23 in 2015, but he was still scoring runs in ODIs. It's the decline in both formats which has been a concern.

Dane Paterson has been called up to the test squad as the back-up seamer, which we probably weren't expecting, having suggested the Morris and Hendricks. He is currently the leading wicket taker in the 4-day competition, so it's a fair enough call.

Probably not much to choose between them.

Supposedly Gibson was watching Lions v Dolphins from grass embankment a day or two ago and you got too think he was there for Beuran Hendricks who according to Stuart Hess really bowled some flat spells which couldn't have done him any favours.

Olivier got Faf in 2nd dig so he got all 3 SA players in the match. Smack bang in form. If he doesn't take this chance fully will he ever ? Really think his season at Derbyshire has brought him on as he even performed in MSL with the white ball.

He's in the unfortunate position that he's not going to get too many chances as it's taken two bowlers out due to injury for him to get a look in. So his international career looks like for now it's going to be odd performances here and there, and he pretty much needs to put in a decent performance every time in order to maintain his place in the pecking order (especially with Nortje on the rise).

Its been tough to try break into the SA fast bowling team, even with injuries and retirements. Need to be pretty damn good.

Absolutely. That was ultimately the reason why Abbott went Kolpak, and it's definitely saying something when he couldn't get a regular spot.

South Africa has obviously produced some great quicks over the years, but I don't think there's been a better era for fast bowler. Not even when Donald and Pollock were in their prime as their support wasn't quite as good as what's available currently.

run out (Hasan Ali/Mohammad Abbas/Yasir Shah/Shadab Khan/Mohammad Rizwan)

Can somebody explain to me what happened in this run out?

Paterson also has had a decent run of late and back bowling in the 140's as an outside consideration. Hendricks would complete our attack fantastically if he can get some consistency - a left-arm medium-fast swing bowler ticks a lot of boxes!
Backed the form bowler. Fair cop.
