Pakistan/Australia possibly the most explosive clash of the tournament

First of all bowling beamers is just abut the most disrespectful and dangerous thing a fast bowler can do. Actually no, its the second most disrespectful thing, the most disrespectful...not saying sorry after bowling a beamer. Waqar was dealt in exactly the right way, although it could have killed the batsman or atleast done severe harm, and maybe a suspension shouldnt be out of the question too.

That was queer wasn't it ? I mean he did apologise the first time around, but didn't do it the second time !? Maybe there was frustration and anger at not being able to restrict Australia to a lower score but it was the last thing I would expect from Waqar. Would have been expected of maybe lets say Shoaib?

-one silly observation, pakistan almost always do well in big tournaments (not only cricket but other sports too) when they struggle in the beginning (WC92, hockey Olympics 84, the two biggest tourneys pak have won in the last twenty years), and suck if they peak early (WC87), so from that aspect atleast they are well on their way to winning the cup

Pakistan lost the match due to poor captaincy, Waqar is proving to be not only an ordinary bowler but a very ordinary captain too.
It was ridiculous to ask Aussies to bat after winning the toss, moreso going into the match with just 3 specialists bowlers was criminal.Waqar doesn't have much faith in Saqlain, he seems to prefer bits and pieces players in S Malik and Afridi over Saqlain.
I think Waqar should have gone for the kill when Aussies were 146-5 and should have attacked them with Akram instead he went defensive.Saqlain would have been very usefull in this situation.
As for Afridi, i can't understand as to why is it essential to have such a player in the team? The guy averages just 12 against Aussies yet is considered good enough to open the innings, Afridi simply doesn't have the technique to survive against a quality pace attack.
I just hope that Pakistan goes with Elahi and Anwar as openers for the rest of the tour.Considering that the teams will take with them the points to the super six stage, i think that if Pakistan loses one more match (to India or Eng) then though they might still qualify for the Supersix but their chances of making it to the semis will become minimal!

All you need now is to be bowled out for 74 by England, and then have the game rained off, and I'd say it's a certain!

In a predictable world Aus would win 6 from 6, Ind, Pak and Eng would beat the 3 minnows, and then those 3 games are crucial - if that ends up being the case then I guess they can only afford 1 more defeat!

I heard Imran when Pakistan toured England 2 years ago and he sounded asleep most of the time. So saying he's a great commentator's a bit...over the top!

I think it as WC99 when I herd Ian Chappell and Imran do commentary, and that was the most intriguing conversation I have heard among commentators for a long time.

Well, not entirely fiction work that, the only time when you are guaranteed some good cricket from the Pakistani's is when they have their backs to the wall. They manage to pull through mostly. Predictions...predictions....I hate doing it !

I hate the fact that all these useless teams have been invited to the cup which makes it long and boring in the beginning round, and unfortunalte I wont be able to watch many good matches as I leave on Mar 1. It should like the old times, having the ICC cup and only inviting one of these nations (which used ot be Zim in those days).

If you are referring to this thread, I said a *possiblity* of a big
clash (evident from the Pakistani squad) it never materliased

Not the second best for sure, but they have the fire power to down Australia, though it has not happened for quite a while. India or South Africa dont have that quality. India by quite a distance. South Africa though are a much better and much more consistent outfit then Pakistan and currently looking streets ahead of them. I have a bias sure, but its not blind.

The present Indian team (under Saurav Ganguly) has won 3 and lost 3 against Australia.

Based on a purely qualitative analysis. Though I maintain, the way the Aussies thrashed the Shoaib's and the Wasim's then went on to crush the Tendulkar's and the Dravid's......they dont seem to have a challenger by a long long way.

Waqar has been captain for a much shorter time compared to Saurav Ganguly. 2 of those 3 wins were consecutive as well, so not bad work?
