Yeah, it is. Dad used to take me when I was a kid. Something pretty exhilerating about seeing four blokes slam a 500cc bike round a hairpin bend @ 70mph with no brakes!

Ahhh i see.

Was.. well sort of. He died a few weeks ago, he was the brother of one of my friends. Extremely sad, went around his house and they had all this merchandise of him from when he was over in England, picture was on lunch boxes etc. Died from a speedway accident.

Hadn't heard that. The poor guy. He used to ride for Newport over here, I think. He can't have been v old either.

Happily I've never seen a fatality, but one close-call with a career-ending smash for a bloke called Robert Henry back in the late 80s.

Yeah he was only 21, funeral was a tear jerker.

Very dangerous sport by the sounds of it.

It can be, but the fatalities are mercifully quite rare. All speedway riders must have balls of steel, IMO.

Yes he bowls right arm fast and left arm slow at the same time as keeping wickets - a real life version of Dizzy in Dev Cricket.
