Son Of Coco

Cricket Web: All-Time Legend
There was an incident when I was umpiring involving an indigenous player and an opposition player with a reputation for being a loud mouth. The latter said to the indigenous batsman, "Get back in your tree monkey." The batsman reacted by shoving the loud mouth to the ground. My fellow umpire insisted on reporting the batsman but said he hadn't heard any racist comment. At the tribunal hearing loud mouth claimed he had said, "Get back in your crease funky." Having heard the original comment quite clearly I indicated this only for the tribunal to question when I had last had my hearing checked. They then suspended the indigenous player for 3 matches while loud mouth got off Scot free. I told the tribunal that the hearing had racist connotations and, as a result, I was demoted next game to a lower grade.
I didn't know you'd umpired in a game that Harbajhan Singh played in.

Recently I saw that report of an indigenous footballer being banned for 20 years for making contact with an umpire. I've watched the video multiple times, and I still can't see the contact being made. It's outrageous. I'm sure there are many, many more stories like this.

That's terrible. Well done to you as an umpire

I once played a winter game against an entirely Chinese XI. They cooked dim sims for the tea break and then we gathered around and called shady a ****

I think it's more disgraceful that posters here are happy to make sweeping statement that insinuate, without a shred of proof mind you, that the thousands of people involved in cricket here in Australia, including selection, pathways and developement, are all making their decisions based upon skin colour and race

Honestly, I think the bigger issue is the recent lack of social economic diversity. All new players seem to be coming from the private school route which tends to suggests that CA is taking its eye off the public school sector big time

you're right as re the private schools, but, obviously, that tends itself massively towards a disproportionate representation of both silver spoon posho kids as well as whitefellas, because that's where the money is

you're also an idiot (well, yeah, you are) if you are pretending people's argument here is that everyone from george bailey down is explicitly throwing resumes in the bin if their name's dhanjeet rather than dan - that isn't how most racism in selection of, well, anything works!
