One hit wonders

He was never in contention during most of the Botham/Willis era and he was injured for nearly a year after his final Test appearance.

Greg Loveridge. He went out to bat against Zimbabwe, made one hit (a four down the ground) then took one hit on the fingers (broke one) and didn't bowl. And that was it...

Trainspotter, I forgot about him, legspinner from memory.

Yeah, as a leggie myself, I was excited to see how he went. There was actually a fascinating article on him in the Herald On Sunday a few weeks ago - he now runs one of Robert Jones' companies! Went off to study at Cambridge too - pretty bright cookie.

EDIT: Aha! The article is now online.

Never bowled a ball, now having a ball - Sport - NZ Herald News
Would be a damn eye-opener working for Bob Jones. I wouldn't imagine much *****-footing around with PC corporate b/s with him, he'd be straight up & down IMO

It came out that summer that Ellison's nickname was plank (derivation being the phrase "thick as two short planks") - we had a bloke on the team I played for called Ellison who never did understand why he suddenly acquired the nickname "log"
My mother used to be an English teacher and once marked an essay which began: "The snow lay, as thick as two short planks..."

Nick Cook's another - not really a one-hit wonder, but produced 3 outstanding performances early in his career, then did nothing.

And in at least 2 of the 3 (the 8-125 and 9-150 at home to New Zealand in '83) he'd not even have played had Phillipe-Henri not been injured (ricked back IIRR?).
