LANCASHIRE visit to TAMIL NADU

Lancashire manager GrahamB had been wary of the visit to Tamil Nadu. The home side had nothing to lose and could well be dangerous. And so it proved as the match turned out to be a real cliffhanger!

TN batted first.
All looked to be going well for visiting Lancashire as wickets fell regularly and the home side were 74/4. C.Hemanath Kumar (41), S.Mahesh (31) and S.Vidyut (30) were holding things together for the home side.
A possible recovery was then seemingly nipped in the bud as D.Ganesh destroyed the middle order and TN collapsed to 129/8.
Enter promising keeper/batsman T.Arasu and ex Lancashire paceman P.Martin. They hit out in style as they posted a magnificent 103 run partnership for the ninth wicket to see TN through to 238, a total that would prove to be very competitive for the visitors. Arasu scored 61 from 38 balls and Martin 38 from 39 balls.
TN were all out in the 38th over! Imagine how much they might have managed in 50!
The most successful Lancashire bowlers were Ganesh with 9-2-57-4 and C.Schofield with 7-1-52-3.

The home fans were in jovial mood when both A.Swann and M.Ramprakash were back in the pavilion at 9/2, C.Vaas claiming both.
New boys A.Schiller (122no) and K.Baumgarner (62) then put together a mature stand of 172 for the third wicket to place their side in a position from which they could launch their assault on the victory target.
With the fall of Baumgarner at 181/3, the dangerous J.Modanagopal came to the crease. Scoring 36 from 31 deliveries, Modanagopal timed the chase dangerously closely as the winning runs were scored in the final over of the game!
Vaas was the most successful of the TN bowlers with 10-2-57-2 while S.Mahesh backed up his useful contribution with the bat by bowling a tight 10-3-32-0.

A.Schiller was named man of the match for his superb anchorman’s innings of 122no in the Lancashire chase.

Lancashire manager GrahamB is said to be bemused about the exploits of some players that he let go to other clubs.
A.Flintoff had a poor season last year, but has been setting the world on fire at Queensland with both bat and ball.
V.Mane is going well for Surrey, unlike M.Ramprakash who moved to Lancashire.
D.Marsh is batting magnificently for Kent, definitely outperforming A.Barnes at Lancashire and A.Noffke is taking wickets galore for the Colts.
Oh well – them’s the breaks!

WORCESTERSHIRE VESRUS SURREY

The day started out on a bad note after Worcs captain Smith defied his managers orders and sent Surrey in on a good deck. Smith has since been stripped of the captaincy.
Surrey made a solid 219, Worcs inability to take wickets 2 and 3 at a time proved to be their downfall.
Mane top scored for the visitors with a man of the match performance of 61*. Big Don Nash was the best of the Worcestershire bowlers with 4/31 off his 8 overs.
Batting 2nd Worcs were never in the game, losing wickets at 0, 15 and 31. Razzaq, Smith and Pipe were the 3 wickets and the heart of Worcs' batting was back in the pavilion. The remaining wickets fell easily as Worcs were dismissed for just 99 in the 31st over.
broncoman was quoted "I am very disapointed with the performance today, I was very confident we would walk all over this Surrey side today, except we turned up and played like the Saudi football side."
He was also asked about the form of star player Abdul Razzaq. "He is a very important player in our side but he is really struggling on the field, he is training quite well, but i put it down to the other players in the side that arent putting in 100%"
All in all it was a poor performance by Worcesershire.

Maybe Next Time!!!

Once again a bowler friendly pitch was prepared in Auckland, and batting was always going to be a struggle.
Leicestershire's top 3 of Fairbrother (21), Ponting (28) and Ward (18) all showed resistance and put the pressure on the Auckland bowlers. However the three lesser known quicks S Thomas, P Hitchcock and C Martin all outbowled A Donald and helped destroy the middle and tail of leicestirshire. It was only a gritty 28 by Vince Wells, which helped his side to 116. S. Thomas however was most impressive taking 5-27 off 7

The Auckland innings started with a flurry as they looked to knock the runs off quickly, however when D.Anderson was caught out of his ground for 12, the rot had started. With only 2 Auckland batsman able to hit double figures, once again Auckland had to leave the ground with their tail between their legs. S Cunis was the star with the ball taking 5-22 off 6, however more will be spoken about the batting performance of this Auckland side, and how something needs to be said to them or the rot will only worsen.

Congrats to Leicstershire

Yorkshire V SA
Well its the same old story. Yorkshire lost.
SA with a superior line up(i think) scored a nice score in their first innings with a top score by Miller. Hamilton and Gough the only contributers to the wicket calculator.
Yorkshire for the second time in two one day games were all out before 150.
McKenzie the only player even close to making an effort.

After such a pearling start to the season Im looking forward to the rest of the season where we might actually win a match(it might be asking alot). but at least we get points in the four day game even when we dont win.

SA vs Yorkshire

Well for the 3rd week in a row, South Australia had a match at Headlingly...

They needed to rescue what was looking to be a bad limited overs season with losses to Mumbai(Round 1) and Kent (VB Cup)...

A different looking batting line-up with Michael Miller pushed up the order to open with M.Jenkins. The 2 got the start that Manager Brendon Goff asked for with the 1st wicket stand of 113, before Miller was run out for 58..
Jenkins went for 61 and Lehman contributed 29, and SA were 3/164.
Stratton then showed some of the promise that was expected from him with a great innins of 64 from 72 and a couple of minor contributions from Laxman, Harris and Watson steered SA to a very competitive total of 5/265...

The home team needed the win as badly as SA but their batsman failed to deliver with Fitzgerald, Richardson, Tendulkar and Hooper all falling cheaply and all of a sudden Yorks were 4/52...
McKenzie played a quick fire innings of 51 from 39 but he tried to go after 1 to many and was caught by Jenkins, and with only Stead and Blakey's pair of 18's the only others to pass double figures the Yorkshire innings rapped up pretty quickly giving SA a very comfortable win by 121 runs...
What impressed SA manager Brendon most was that all his bowlers took use of the hit out and really showed good form..
Bond 2/11 from 7(with 4 maidens)
Harrity 3/31 from 7
Watson 1/34 from 5
Miller 2/14 from 7
Kumble 2/23 from 7
Harris 0/19 from 5

Man of the match was Michael Miller for hiw 58 and 2/14...

After the Match Brendon Goff said it felt good to finally get off the mark with a 1 Day win but said the next 2 weeks would determine how successful the season would be, "We have big games against Mumbai(4 Day) and QLD(1 Day) in the next 2 weeks and losses in either of those games could well signal the end of our campaigns in that form of the game, We have had a tough start to the season and we need to lift now, guys are still trying to build combinations but in this top division 1 blink of the Eye and the season is over. I believe that 2 losses in either league could well signal the end of title aspirations for anyone, Thats how close it is.."
Asked how they would handle the powerful Mumbai side in the 4 day game this week Goff said "They have a strong side, but NSW proved this week that if Darden is controlled Mumbai could struggle, we need to really get in there and get stuck into him early. There is alot of pressure on him with the captaincy and opening all in his rookie season and we need to expose him to those pressures, if we can do this then we are half the way to winning"
Also Asked who looks to be the title chances after 2 round in the 1 Day league goff said "Look QLD and NSW are obviously setting the benchmark but u can't discount any of the Top 6 as all have players who are capable of scoring big and quick, Just look at the weekend, Schiller hit and unbeaten 122, WA have the likes of Gilchrist and Martyn, and with Mumbai Darden, Kumar and Muzumdar, all these players are suited to the OD game, but it really comes down to who can stand up when needed..."

The Glamorgan side went down fighting to the mighty Kent team.

Glamorgan won the toss and batted. A top and middle order collapse saw wickets fall regularly until the score was 6/57 with Ganguly making 36. A solid 78 run stand between Maynard and Cherry followed before another run of wickets. Adding respectability to the total, Cherry and last man Parkin added 36 for the last wicket. Cherry made 53 as Glamorgan could only manage 191, a good comeback. Saggers with 4/42 was the best of the bowlers.

The Kent chase couldn't have started any worse as Butcher was out of the first ball of the innings. Steady wickets fell but Kent always looked in control as Marsh hit a match winning unbeaten 70. Batty chipped in with 32 and Hutton came in at the end to hit a quick fire 24 just as the Glamorgan bowlers thought they had a shot. A 4 wicket victory to the mighty Kent side. Dale got 2/26 and parkin bowled well.

The boys were understandably upset after the match and resorted to some cleansing ales to drown the sorrows.

I think that report sums up the game nicly and would like to congrat McCauge on a fine spell of 7 overs for just 13 runs and really turned the pressure on the Glamorgan batsman. With the bat Marsh again performed out of his skin and others gave him good support at the right time..S.Hutton's 24 from just 8 helped to finish the inngs off in super fashion....

Manger Rich2001 commented after the game "it's great that our winning streak has continued and still remain unbeaten in all forms, but Glamorgan pushed hard and it was a great game between two very strong sides. Unfortuantly it's been the same players that have stood out over the last few games and it's about time the others pull their socks up a bit...a few are getting very very close to being dropped, nobody in this team is above anyone else, whoever they think they are.

Hampshire beat Warwickshire , whose lineup gave me a little fright before the game , Hampshire wanted a win as they had not won their first game ( lost to surrey , .... )

But Warwickshire won the toss and elected to bat , maybe a wise decision maybe a not... they were in deep trouble from the 3rd ball with top Gun Jayasuria going for a 0 to main man tremlett , who looked shaky in the first game against surrey

Warwickshire got out for 71 , a stunning effort from the top form Hampshire bowlers
C.Tremlett 3-0-18-2
S.Lampitt 4-2-8-3
were the pick with the other 2 bowling economically too
Hampshire fought back with no trouble

Wholesale changes will be made to ND"s team for the next round. Eyes_Only will be looking closely at the result after the 4 day game this round.

ND seems to be doing better in the longer version of the game and Eyes_Only will wait until the match is completed before naming her team.
