TN crumbled to 107 All Out thanks to Lennox Cush taking a 6-for. A very bad start to the season for TN. However it was to the division favourites the Colts, TN will be looking for a strong win in the first Four Day clash of the season!

South Australia WIN WIN WIN!!!!

An impressive start to the season for WCC heavyweights the South Australian Redbacks. After finishing 3rd on net run rate in last years competition, SA recruited with the one day game as its focus. The clash at the SCG against New South Wales was one of the highlights in the opening round of the season, it turned out perferctly and heres why...

After deciding to bat first South Australia had a pretty good start, Dravid and Midlane put on 80 before the Indian keeper was caught at first slip by fellow countryman Shetty. Captain Hagis Midlan was next to go with the score on 117, Midlane was out hooking a short ball from Jaques Kallis. Just 3 runs later last years one day hero Ben Allen fell for 12, also caught at first slip by Shetty from the bowling of Kallis. An unbroken partnership of 159 from new recruits K van Jaarseveld (77*) and K Rangnekar (78*) set up a formidable total of 3/279 from the Redbacks 50 overs. Kallis (2/58) was the best of the bowlers. Star player Q Moore was smashed around the park for his 10 overs, finishing with 0/77.

NSW were never in the chase after falling to 5/51 early on. Late resistence from J Martin (80) and G Jones (48) kepts the game relatively close. Highlights for the Redbacks included the keeping for Rahul Dravid who took 2 great catches and had a couple of good stumpings. James Anderson took 4/23 from 6 overs as he hit back at critics who slammed him in the off season claiming he wasnt good enough to play for South Australia. All rounder D Nisar and sri lankan recruit M Bandara both took a wicket, but copped some punishment in NSW's chase for quick runs. Seasoned paceman M Sigera was impressive in taking 2/49. NSW bowled out for 195.

A comprehensive 84 run win to South Australia who will have the other division 1 teams shaking in their boots after this performance. Redbacks player of the year points went to 3 J Anderson 2 K Rangnekar 1 K Van Jaarsveld

Anyway, to the match report. Somerset started their season with a loss to Surrey, but got the points due to a non-submission.

The loss was pretty disappointing to be honest. It was largely due to lazy batting. We made 6/229 from 50 overs, the unbeaten pair put on 96. That frustruted me as Pothas took 71 balls to make his 29*

On the positive side, Maqbool made a half century and grabbed a wicket, YA Singh made 46 from 41, Dhamika and Kaneria bowled well, and perhaps in a strange way the best news came from Godwin, who bowled 5 overs. He is essentially a batsman who sucks at bowling, but his default bowling is 5 opm. Initially I was doubtful he would perform well, but 5 overs for 25 is fine by me.

Colts CC got exactly the start we needed crushing TN in the opening OD game of the season. TN lost 2 wicket early but looked like recovering with solid knocks to Cowe and Clissitt, however when they were removed TN crumbled to Cush who took 5/16 from 6 overs in his amazing spell. Hamblin chipping in with 2/39 and Troughton took 1/2.

Darden went after the TN bowling early shamshing 28 off just 13 balls, his agression became his downfall however as he was run out attempting a quick single, the damage had been done however, Andrews contributed 28 as Colts cruised to victory in just the 18th over, the whole match over in just 42 overs.

In a lowscoring match on a lifeless and slow OD pitch, the home side KENT scored 213/5 before restricting the visiting OD champions LANCASHIRE to a paltry 188/2.
However, LANCASHIRE were awarded the match due to a serious breach of the competition rules by the Kent club. :nopity:

KENT - 213/5

L.French - 69no
O.Hemp - 38
J.Singh - 33n0
M.Higgs - 2/32
K.Hogg - 2/37

LANCASHIRE - 188/2

A.Anderton - 93no
S.Qambrani - 69

LOL one of my players (W Kaye) is out for 3 weeks because of Personal Problems. If this was real life i'd hit him over the head with a bat and tell him to smarten up lol.... Anyway to the game.. we had a comfortable 2 RUN victory of Guyana :) (two runs lol comfortable) MOTH for J Louw with 4 for and 40 odd not out.

You need to employ Peter Roebuck as a player psychologist! 8-)

Disappointing narrow loss to Free State

Leicestershire has started its season 6 campaign with a narrow loss to Free State. The Leicestershire manager doesn't see all doom and gloom yet because he remembers that last season they started off with a narrow loss as well. Leicestershire had positives in Underwood and Piggott with Piggott best of the batsmen at an unbeaten 84 off 105 balls while Underwood continues to perform well in the 1d game contributing 71 from 78 balls before falling to the bowling of Halse who was the best of the oppositions bowlers taking 2/57 off 10. One player in particular was really disappointed in their first ever game in the big time started with a golden duck. Leicestershire posted 4-279 off their 50 overs slightly below where they were targeting considering the oppositions batting strength. It was always going to be a tough game and in the end Free State prevailed with a 2 wicket win finishing 8/280 off 49 overs with Hussey being the top scorer with 63 off 91 balls. Some of Leicestershire's bowlers went for quite a few runs which is an area we need to improve have we any chance at getting promoted this season. Best of Leics bowlers was Adams with 3 wickets for 41 off 9 overs. Overall not the greatest start to the season like we had hoped but still a lot of matches left.

Karnataka Win First Up
Relegation Threat Averted - For Now?

A great opening partnership between Ed Howarth and Abhijit Kale saw Karnataka cruise to their narrow target of 268 with almost six overs to spare. Hitting at a run a ball against toothless Warwickshire bowlers, Kale eventually was caught on the boundary by Bradshaw for 129, but by that time Karnataka only had 41 runs remaining to hit with seven wickets in hand and well over ten overs to get them. Earlier, Vijay Wadekar had been the hero as he removed Dowla, Howarth, Wilmott and Bradshaw inside his ten overs, and only a massive slog from Yasir Hameed redeemed their target. However, on a flat pitch, Karnataka were the heroes - an important home victory.

On another note, Kent is placed fourth in the table with one loss, no wins, yet a positive net run rate. Interesting stuff, these forfeits...
