Olympics Athletics

The big kahuna starts properly today, and ought to have its own thread really.

Two of GB's best medal hopes in heats today (Kerr 1500m and Hodgkinson 800m - who looks a cert really in the absence of Mu).

First day of Decathlon today too plus Men's 10km tonight.

Always think this is when the Olympic becomes a bit less fun as the hype around the athletics drowns out everything else. Do we really need to see every 100m decathlon heat?

To be fair, there's not a lot of other "big" events on at the moment.

I don't think the Athletics does it, it's the BBC coverage. I'd have said the same about the sodding gymnastics for the last few days.

Do you guys not have an option to, like, stream any event that you like live even if it's not on the "main channel"? I can't imagine a worse way to watch the Olympics than being hostage to the broadcasting decisions of mainstream TV producers.

Yep, Discovery Plus offers every different sport and with much better commentators too, although you do have to pay (£7.99). I've largely steered clear of BBC coverage because they spend so long in the studio chatting ****.

I've noticed that you can even stream each individual Athletics Field Event separately if that's your bag.

Yeah we have the same deal where C9 gets the international feed which has separate channels for every event. Only their paid streaming service gets 4K and full replays though.

Until they bring in 'on board' camera options (like F1) every Olympics event will be bad. I want to see the back of a horses head as the dramatics of dressage unfolds.

Josh Kerr destroys a seriously hot first round 1500m and looks in great form. Hard to believe it won't be him or Ingebrigtsen who win Gold.

Repechage in athletics seems wrong
It kind of makes sense if you have a big name who gets tripped up. But it's largely just delaying the inevitable. How often does anyone who comes through a repechage win a medal?

The 2 Australians were miles behind so seems pretty pointless

Seems like a case of “well, you’ve come all this way so have a couple of races”

On form this year, no one is living with Hodgkinson, the bookies have her 1-3. Kipyegon is only in the 1500m for which she is the 1-4 fave.

So erm not that hard to call at all it would seem.
