Olympic cycling thread

Trust me to start this one up

For the men's RR I think the Spanish on paper are almost unbeatable with all of them potential winners, but that can also cause problems as well if more then one of them on their day is going strong and Paolo Bettini is also a big favourite. He is a big race rider, he has been two time World Champion plus many other big classic wins including the Tour of Lombardy in '06 a week after his brother died in a car crash.

For the track events, GB's Mark Cavendish and Bradley Wiggins should be able to clean up in the persuit (and they are 100% clean, you can trust your bottom dollar on that) and Victoria Pendleton should be able to get a medal as well plus the squad led by Chris Hoy (A Scotsman BTW).

Dunedin's Greg Henderson (have no idea if he is well known or not there)is a chance of a medal as well.

Craig. Do you prefer the road races or the velodrome races at the Olympics?

Personally I like the time trials on the road races, but love the excitement of the velodrome.

Haven't really read all that much about Australias Velodrome team this time around, outside of the Mears sisters, are we a chance for any medals?

One of the biggest sports for us Dutchies. Expecting a fair few medals on the track with Theo Bos and Marianne Vos, on the road for Marianne Vos as well, and hoping for a road TT medal for Stef Clement.

Expecting we will be dissapointed in Cycling, there's pretty much no way we can live up to our Worlds performance, but if we get close we'll have plenty of medals, should be the leading nation in cycling medals anyway. At least 9 events we're a legitimate Gold medal chance, possibilty that cycling could make up 75% of our Gold medal chances.

Anyway Reade should be a shoe in for the Women's bmx. Impressive athlete...only 19 she was like the british men's number one at 17 or something and won the WC in china earlier this year at a canter.

Any tips for the Road Race this afternoon? Paolo Bettini for mine.

There are three New Zealanders racing - Julian Dean, Timothy Gudsell, and Glen Chadwick, anything other then finishing will be a bonus, especially for Gudsell and Chadwick. They should look to get in one of the early breaks that will go early in the race.

Spain looking strong. We have the winners of this years Giro and Tour de France on the front. Such unity.
