Yep, its official. Misbah has been named the vice captain of pakistan. Lets see how he does with this expectation.,

OT, but from the article:

Category A players will receive a Rs 250,000 (US$4016) monthly retainer, category B players Rs 175,000 (US$2811), category C players Rs 100,000 (US$1606) and category D players Rs 75,000 (US$1204). Retainerships are also of Rs 75,000 a month.

I know the players make money from endorsements and what not, but these are ridiculously low amounts for International cricketers. I mean Category A players make a base salary of $48,000/yr? Heck many mid-level management types in America make way more than that! Minimum income for a MLB player is $390,000/yr. I think there's something wrong with the economics here. PCB makes millions of dollars a year, they can surely pay better?

Find it incredible that a nation such as Pakistan reward their finest players with such inproportionate financial rewards in comparison to other cricketing nations.

Knee jerk reaction? Definitely. While there aren't many genuine candidates for the vice-captaincy, to thrust it at a guy who has only been in the side for six months or so, doesn't show much confidence in the rest of your senior players.

Bear in mind that this money is just the base from the PCB, and presumably doesn't include match-fees.

True, but it still isn't a heap of money you would associate with cricket at the highest level.

Misbah has very much been rushed into such a pivotal role. Not so long ago he was not anywhere near the national side now he has been installed as vice-captain. Only in Pakistan.

I like him as a cricketer and he certainly appears to be a thinker, but let him just concentrate on his cricket for now.

75 thousand rupees a month is a heck of a lot of money.

please dont forget the PPP people.

Purchasing power parity, what he's getting at is that you can't translate directly into other currencies, as one dollar in Pakistan can probably buy a lot more than one dollar somewhere else.

Zimbabwe doing well, so good to see :)

Mupariwa is a gun first ball of the over bowler.

So far he's gotten Younis and Jamshed.

Pak 70/3 after 19.1 overs, they are in some trouble.

Shoaib Malik gone! 76-4, Zim in a good position here :) Hope they can keep it up.
Yeah. I wouldn't get too excited though. As much as the Zimbabwean batting lineup is under-rated, it sounds as if the pitch has a bit of life in it, and Pakistan actually bat right down at 11 in this game. Arafat is listed at #11, and he has 1856 List A runs @ 21.58 (and an even record in 4-day cricket as well, FWIW). Kamran Hussain on debut, scheduled to bat #10, has slightly better stats still. so a wagging "tail" is certainly on the cards if it needs to be.

Still. Another one down! Pity the SA game is starting soon and the mens singles final in the tennis, love to watch the rest of this.

Spoiled for choice it seems :p

Pakistan struggling at 85/5 after 25 overs is a good position for Zimbabwe to be in, but as Prince said, these guys bat deep. Wouldn't surprise me to see Afridi make a decent one, that's the kind of thing he does.

Really important phase of the game, this. Two batsmen set at the crease, Price proving rather effective and the dire fifth bowler combination of Chibhabha/Masakadza/Williams/Dabengwa with still nine overs to bowl before Brent and Mupariwa come back to bowl at the death. If Zimbabwe can pick up a couple of wickets or at least minimise the damage here, it'll be very interesting, but I fully expect Pakistan to make up lost ground in the next 10-15 overs.

Haha, and Pakistan take 18 from Chibhabha's over straight after my post.

And 14 off Maskadza, who I presume is still trying to bowl his dire medium pace instead of those leggies which actually looked to have something about them.

Straight slow-medium bowling with no variation is not going to trouble Afridi. You have to do something different.
