***Official*** Zimbabwe in New Zealand 2012

Slightly sick of hearing about Guptill's hot run of form. He's been going well but it's been entirely against Zimbabwe and at domestic level. Interspersed in there was a series of struggles against Australia. Still unproven when the **** gets real.
It is some hilarious minnow-bashing, tbh.

And he is out performing all the other NZ batsman against the same standard of opposition.

Guptill's run of form is so hot that he now averages above 40 from 56 ODIs. Must be a while since we last had a batsman with an average over 40 from 50+ matches, if we ever have.

Definitely, and I don't totally discount performances against lesser opposition- I'd rather he was scoring runs and looking good than not doing so. However, I don't see that he's got any closer to proving his ability at "real" international level.

I agree.

Interesting... Oram next in.

McCullum needs a nightwatchman, perhaps?

I will be shocked if this experiment works.
I think it's genuinely to get him back into some batting form as opposed to a just a slog.

It's easy to forget that Jacob Oram was once a proper batsman with test centuries against England at Lords against Australia at Brisbane & two against SA, home & away. No mean feat.

Yeah, he was bloody good back then. A few monstrous ODI innings along the way, too - his ton at the WACA comes to mind.

He's looked a shadow of his former self lately, though, but seems to be blazing away today.
