Since when does an off spinner bowl a wrong un? I thought it was a leg spinners ball.

None of Canada, Ireland B or Afghanistan look to have enough on the board. So long as Kenya apply themselves, 157/5 after 40 kept down to 210-220 should be very gettable. 205/8 ought to be within Holland's range on a pitch that seems to be flattening out. Namibia's strength is very much with the bat, and 240 or so isn't likely to be enough to keep the Afghans in the game... unless, of course, they strike early.

Scotland, on the other hand, finally look like they're going to make a total that ought to be beyond the UAE.

So... Ireland 10, Canada 8, Kenya 8, Holland 8, UAE 6, Namibia 6, Scotland 6, Afghanistan 4.

It'll require the Dutch, Kenyans or Scots to blow this in order for us to need the calculators.

I'm not too sure about that - if you look at some of Namibia's first round results, particularly their game against Uganda and the fact that Afghanistan's relative strength is their bowling, that game could potentially go down to the wire.

I think we'll know after the first 10... I can see it being one extreme or another.

Dutch starting the chase well, having to bat six overs before lunch due to their over rate .

Agree with Neil: Dutch, Kenya and Scotland should win their matches from this position. Afghan/Namibian game really irrelevant for WC qualification as it stands.

Net run rates after 1st innings

Ireland +0,721 (10pts)
Canada +0,702 (8pts)
Netherlands +0,081 (6pts)
Kenya -0,006 (6pts)
UAE -0,979 (6pts)
Namibia -0,033 (4pts)
Afghanistan -0,285 (4pts)
Scotland -0,298 (4pts)

Due to UAE conceding so many runs, Canada are officially qualified. (Well, if you exclude the possibility of 150-odd no-balls)

And if the predictions come true that:

Ned beat Can
Ken beat Ire
Sco beat UAE
Afg beat Nam or v.v.

it will be

Ireland, Canada, Kenya, Netherlands to the WC
Scotland and the winner of Afg vs. Nam will get ODI status (their NRR will always be better than that of UAE)

Yup, no need for calculators in that case.

In case of some surprises in Kenya/Ireland or Netherlands/Canada, though:

Namibia will finish ahead of Netherlands if they win
Namibia need to chase in 48.4 overs to beat Kenya if Kenya lose by 1 run
Kenya have a 94-run lead on Afghanistan (so, for example, if Afghanistan win by 94 runs and Kenya lose by 1, Afghanistan are ahead on NRR)
Netherlands have an 87-run lead on Afghanistan
Kenya have a 171-run lead on Scotland
Netherlands have a 164-run lead on Scotland

from which it can be deduced that Kenya have 7 runs on the Netherlands.

Edit: Namibia lost a Burger first up.

good to see the experieced bowlers finally stepping up with the ball.

"It'll require the Dutch, Kenyans or Scots to blow this in order for us to need the calculators."

considering the 3 teams in question and their records in the tournament so far, I would consider this highly likely...I have mine ready just in case

That was his first ball?!

that why we love him

That would have got a bollocking at Under 10 level... would have been interested to see the coaching reaction from Kirsten.
Me too...

Yep, first ball. Ridiculous shot.
The way he has batted all tournament is indefensible, as he is a good cricketer and I’ve always been fairly impressed by him when watching Durham.

No Waters for Kenya. Nice.
And the others get to fail right through thetournaments no questions asked. its like they have special standards for him

Kenya, application?
If we pray hard enough...
