WI have done well today but they collapsed twice on a road last week. This pitch looks to have a bit more in it for the bowlers so they could easily be skittled again.

Root just doesn't seem to have the mentality at the moment to bat really long (well duh) at present. It just seems he's just a bit to eager to put pressure back on the bowler and as a result always giving the opposition a chance. Doesn't quite have the discipline to bat the really long periods.
He can do it. The knock against Pakistan (254) is what imo he should be striving for. He got his head down and looked to bat a long time from the number 3 spot. He put away a lot of the risky (but profitable) shots he plays and waited for them to bowl at him. He only really opened up once he made it past 200. I think Root and England have got some criticism before this game for their batting.
He scored 190 against SA earlier in the summer but iirc he gave 3 or 4 chances.
It's possibly to do with ODI/T20 cricket too. Hard to change your natural tempo of batting especially with so much white ball cricket.
Still he;s averaging 54 - so maybe i should stop and be thankful for that.

At 37-3 I wasn't concerned. If we went 200-8 I may be. Always think we will scramble our way to 300+ from any poor start.
