***Official*** West Indies Tour of the UK 2017

International Captain
But you back Broad and Anderson to defend 300 easy, especially vs the West Indies. Everyone I know expected WI to crumble by tea.
This has the benefit of hindsight obviously, but England had 2 solid data points to not declare that early -

1. Windies had scored 400+ in the first dig so they were showing the intent to fight.
2. England had score about 500 in the second, so the pitch was doing fine.

350 in 90 would have been a more sensible call then what Root made.

On the plus side, at least the fact that it's Hope who's done so well makes things easy for the headline writers

International Coach
I'm kinda pissed at him tbh. He joined the "West Indies need to be relegated to a second tier" brigade after the first test and became unbearably miserable to listen to.
Dude if you captained this lot for the last few years he had, you'd be an alcoholic as would I, can't blame him for having a moan especially after the last test.

Cricketer Of The Year
The entirety of cricket's punditry elite seem to be defending Root, so I doubt he'll feel particularly bad at all. Probably vindicated because we got an exciting game out of it, or something. Which has been great for the spectacle, sure, but doesn't make it any less of the wrong decision. So we'll have learnt nothing.

Ah well, congrats Windies. Fantastic batting performance. Rode tremendous pressure incredibly well.
