I've not been watching but why did Moeen only bowl 2 overs?
He picked up a lucky wicket, get out whilst your ahead, Rashid is by far the better limited-overs spinner. Could have taken a few Willey overs, but then they'd have to admit he's not very good.

Yet the batting at 11 is clearly important.

I understand this isn't so much tempting fate as throwing it a huge middle finger, but this looks like an absolute walk in the park right now.
Is this the first time ever that you've said something will be easy and that's exactly how it's turned out?

Pleased for Bairstow, even if it wasn't perhaps the most difficult situation he could have been batting in, it's a nice confidence booster after a bit of a disappointing time with the bat in the test series. And of course, your first ODI ton is always going to feel good.

Well that was a match between a proper, well drilled ODI team and one that relies on a few players to win matches for them.

Our T20 lineup all knew their roles and consistently outclass England. It's the complete opposite in ODI's, England are just much better than us. The bowling was tight, the fielding was mostly superb and they batted like they usually do.

We, on the other hand, have 3 powerful but inconsistent batsmen that can win a match for us in Gayle, Lewis and Samuels. A promising middle order bat who needs to rotate the strike in Shai Hope. I imagine on flat pitches with small boundaries we can be quite effective. But whenever thought is required and you need to construct a total rather than just biff it about, we're found wanting. We hit 5 sixes to England's 2 and yet were absolutely hammered. They need to rotate the strike. The bowling attack selected for this series is also very weak indeed, I don't see how they can restrict England.

Our only chance to win matches in this series is for Gayle or Lewis to go mad and give us a huge total. Otherwise all the matches will be like this.

Also not at all pleased that Sunil Ambris isn't getting a game. We don't need Bishoo, Rovman Powell should bat at 7 and actually be given the ball, he's a decent medium pacer. AMbris should come in at 6 and take the gloves off Shai who is going to have a heavy workload over the coming years.

Has Bairstow not got the gloves for the purpose of managing his workload or do the selectors believe Buttler is the better keeper?

Yeah I get that, and Bairstow has been knocking down the door of this team for ages so the first top order bat that was looking shaky was going to be moved on pretty quick. But now that he is back in why not give him the gloves and play Butler as the specialist bat, as I rate YJB a better keeper these days.

It's no big deal and I really don't care much either way, I'm just interested to know if it's a workload thing or if the selectors think differently to me and reckon Butler is the better keeper.

It would be slightly potty even by England selectors standards to instantly take the gloves from the established keeper and give them to someone not established in the side. I'd be fairly amazed if they thought Buttller is the better keeper, but I don't think that's even a consideration yet.

I'd expect 'managing workloads' to be the main reason they won't change the situation, even if they felt Bairstow were a slightly better keeper.

Whatever it takes!!!
It might also be a sign of things to come - we can conceivably see a team with 2 keepers in the XI for both tests and ODIs and one of them keeps in tests and the other does in ODIs.

If Bairstow becomes a specialist bat though his very secure spot in the team would become very reliant on his batting performance. If he keeps the gloves hel never lose his spot

the tests were a very good series with a bit of a fizzer to finish... are we all in agreement generally the windies are on the up or at least with this crop can promise to go on the up if managed correctly? they're young and inexperienced but they care, and we've got less crotchety white dudes on their board running it in to the ground

There is every chance that situation is imminent with Bairstow and Butler. I would not be totally surprised if Butler makes our Ashes squad and they way our batting line up is, if he does there is a very good chance he'll end up playing. He wont be getting the gloves off Bairstow in tests.

See England have finally learnt the lesson of having their best batsmen face the most deliveries.

Windies should have shown the better performance! Hope brothers inclusion will surely work for them, yet need patience!
