Innings defeat here.
He was out quite some time back already.FFS
Had hope for a century
When I watched old footages of Sobers' legside shots, Hetmyer was the name that immediately came to my mind. Why was there a hype on Hetmyer? He averages just 33 in first class cricket with just one century.
I was going to write about this in the warm up thread. He literally has 5 tons in warm up matches that didn't count as FC. 3 of them against decent opposition also. If you watch him bat for any length of time you realise he is a special player.Been wondering the same. I won't believe until i start seeing results.
1000%. Powell is reaching Devon Smith/Darren Ganga levels here. Though I feel that's a bit harsh on Ganga. I am praying for some runs from an opener in domestic cricket which makes it impossible for them to continue picking him. He's had a 2 year run in the side now, enough's enough. It must be so hard being a WI supporter. Lost the toss, the bowlers have been belted all over the place, Jadeja's scored a ton and then you see Kieron ****ing Powell walking out to open the batting.
Maybe bring back Darren Bravo and make one of the middle-order batsmen (Hope?) open?1000%. Powell is reaching Devon Smith/Darren Ganga levels here. Though I feel that's a bit harsh on Ganga. Tbf every other player in this XI deserves to be there IMHO. Our batting is crap and will take some time and patience to come good. But Powell has to go.
Kumar is rested. Bumrah and Ishant have niggles I think(or rested). And they picked Shardul Thakur (lol) ahead of Siraj in the 12-man squad. Why is Umesh playing? Surely he's below the pecking order to Kumar, Bumrah and Ishant. Or are all three being rested? If so, might as well play Siraj.
We definitely need Bravo back, it makes the middle order a hell of a lot more solid. I wouldn't mess around and make Hope an opener though, I'd try and find a specialist. The last A team's openers were John Campbell and Chanderpaul Hemraj, neither of whom fill me with confidence. Both are attractive stroke players who hardly ever score less than 20, but hardly ever go on to get a big score. If Campbell has a break through season he could be the one who gets given a shot.Maybe bring back Darren Bravo and make one of the middle-order batsmen (Hope?) open?
I think five bowlers are a must on Australian pitches these days. I'll play both the spinners as they can bat too. Bhuvi at 9 further reinforces the batting. Thanks, mate.
I'm quietly optimistic about the Australia tour. Shami, Ishant / Kumar and Bumrah with support from Jadeja / Ashwin - might just help us to win the series. It all depends how Shaw and Pant can cope against 145kph on quick pitches. I think the pacers are good enough that we don't need five bowlers.
But yes, hopefully Umesh is ditched by then. Can play him in T20 and as a reserve in ODIs.
No **** ha.Innings defeat here.
Agree to disagree on five bowlers. But surely Bumrah > Ishant and Kumar.I think five bowlers are a must on Australian pitches these days. I'll play both the spinners as they can bat too. Bhuvi at 9 further reinforces the batting.
Shaw
Rahul
Pujara
Kohli
Rahane
Pant (Even though I hate his keeping, but I think his batting compensates for it till we have Saha back.)
Jadeja
Ashwin
Bhuvi
Shami
Ishant/Bumrah
