Re: Hope, he seemed to raise his aggression levels as soon as Archer came on and did quite well in his first over. Perhaps got overconfident when Woakes came on and led to that horror shot.

Batting quality just isn't there for the Windies, especially in these conditions against this attack.

Pretty amazing their highest-ranked bat is coming in at 8 today, which also shows the folly of having night-watchman for a batting line-up structured like this.

Shai, Shai, Shai. You fought so hard and then did that? Time for a rest, some FC cricket and come back stronger. Tbh, it's better for the development of our Test side that he failed here IMHO. Him scoring a 50 would have just muddied the waters whereas now it is clear what needs to be done.

I think he does need to get dropped for his own sake though. Go back and play some FC. Score some big runs there again. He's quite young
Yeah, the boy very clearly has a touch of class about him, but (as has been quite widely reported) hasn't played any FC cricket outside of tests since 2017.

That has to have an effect.

I think a season of CC cricket would do him the power of good, but, failing that, a few games for Barbados will hopefully suffice. It's not fair to him or the team to stick with him for any longer in his current slough.

It would've been interesting to see how he'd have gone for England if he'd pursued his original ambition to qualify for us.

Definitely! He is out of rhythm in the red ball format, you can see he just doesn't know how to build an innings any more. He either gets completely stuck or is over attacking like he was here. Wheras in ODI cricket, where since 2018 he has averaged 65 at a strikerate of 80, he is completely comfortable and knows his game.

Brooks has looked good throughout the series without going on. He definitely deserves another look in our next series.

Whatever it takes!!!
What a damp squid after that fun first test. England just a class above once they figured out their side and once Windies started Windiesing.

'England have not conceded a century in their last seven Tests. Assuming no Windies batsman makes one today, it will be England's longest sequence without an opposing batsman scoring a century since 1957-58 when they went eight games.'

Quite the nugget. Might be a bit early for it, like.

England are clearly the better side, especially in these conditions. The first choice bowling attacks are dead even but England have so much strength in depth and were able to keep it fresh. Our attack struggled with three back to back tests.

As for the batting, England's is clearly a lot better. We have a lot of work to do. I think what has disappointed me since the first test is that we have got our tactics and team decisions wrong and therefore not given ourselves the best possible chance of competing. Mainly, not freshening up the bowling at all and not trying any new batsmen even though the incumbents clearly suck.

2-1 is a reasonable result for us but to get beyond this stage in our development we have to a) score more runs b) occasionally bat first!

Don't see us getting a 50 let alone a hundred tbf.

Huh. Could've sworn de Kock scored one at Centurion in the first test, but no, 95 when I checked.
