There we go, plenty more that I didn't quote too -I don't think anyones ever thought Elgar was totally crap TBH. He has always looked pretty decent. Has definitely taken him a while to really kick on at Test level though.
Rankings are meaningless in the shorter forms of the games, especially T20 as any team can win on a day. The longer the game, the more the team with greater talent and ranking is expected to win.
Just when you think it can't get any worse for SA, they've replaced Amla in the squad with Elgar. It's like they're trying to get the biggest assembly of rubbish they can in the middle-order with Elgar, Behardien and Ingram.
Can't think of a worse one in world cricket.
And yeah, I was going to write something about SA too but cbf. Ridiculously good team. Only weakness is Elgar, who despite his century is still ****.
We'll see your Elgar and raise you a Munro
This dude seriously looks like the worst specialist bat I've seen play a test match for a long time.
Making Elgar and Kleinveldt look like test players.
Actually, Rory's bowling very nicely here, tbf to him.
Rory bowled well in Adelaide too. He looked a club standard bowler on debut but part of that was nerves I'd say. As I said after that Adelaide Test, he doesn't look a terrible bowler to have as a travelling reserve. You'd be in trouble if he was in your full strength attack but he's not anywhere near as bad as he looked in Brisbane.
Elgar though.. hmm.
Now of course there's no tasting to be had here since it's too early in his career, but this has a lot of potentialNah it's nothing about aesthetics, Elgar just doesn't have a technique which will hold up. Hughes didn't have a technique which could hold up and get found out. Elgar looks junk. And it's not because he's ugly on the eye, it's just he doesn't have a technique which can be successful long term in test cricket.
