Guptill
McCullum
Flynn (if you're going to play Flynn in ODIs, you might as well use him early, as stopping the customary NZ batting collapse is his greatest strength)
Ryder
Taylor
Broom
Elliott
Vettori
Mills

Can't see why you wouldn't have Ryder opening tbh, he just seems such a natural ODI opener for mine. Generally plays late, relatively risk-free & doesn't rely on premeditating making him a perfect compliment for McCullum's dynamic and high-risk game. That said, still manages to score at a good clip.

I put my best batsman (Ryder) at 4.
:)

Just think he's a little vulnerable against the swinging ball because he doesn't move his feet.

I really hope they let Guptill open and settle there, he is after all a specialist opener and a talented one at that.

I'm not sure I'm exactly happy with Ryder and McCullum opening at the moment. With the batting lineup so inexperienced, especially now that Styris is out for the next month, its a bit too much like throwing all our eggs in one basket. Sure, if they both come off then its game over before the end of the first 10. But McCullum is in a lean patch and Ryder has always been one to give the opposition plenty of chances.

Also, as talented as Broom and Guptill undoubtedly are, they leave our ODI lineup looking worringly similar to the underperforming NZA OD team that toured India recently. I'd prefer to get a bit of experience in there.

Ryder, Fulton, Flynn, Taylor, Sinclair, McCullum, Elliot, Vettori, Mills, Southee, Gillespie/Patel

Doesn't look like it'll matter for tomorrow anyway. Rain has been forecast again.

Guptill and Broom deserve their chances, especially Broom.

I reckon they should be backed to do the job, especially against the West Indies. Perhaps if they were making their debuts against Australia or South Africa i'd be a little worried, but against the West Indies I don't see a problem. If it rains tomorrow i'll be ultra pissed...have my tickets ready and i'm looking forward to seeing Broom and Guppy bat.

Haven't paid too much attention to the domestic one dayers this season (other than Sinclair's form :p), so can anyone tell me how Fulton is doing? It surprises me that he hasn't been given a run given how much better than everyone else he was on that NZA tour.

Sinclair 331 @ 110.33

Fulton 157 @ 39.25

So not bad but hardly amazing either.
Yeah, I'm aware of Sinclair's form, as I said. :p

I really don't see why Fulton isn't playing though. Good domestic form, streets ahead in the A tour and a good ODI record. Broom was also pretty good on the A tour and probably deserved a chance, but I don't see why Guptill would be brought in for someone who bats #3 in ODIs when Fulton's ready and waiting.

Well I see it as McCullum can cover Oram while Guptill can cover McCullum. Taylor is a fine #3. Also while Fulton has had okay domestic form there are a few others who averaging more thus far:

Cumming
Watling
Pinga
Todd
Haig
Nevin
Papps
Williamson
Myburgh
Guptill
Hamish Marshall
Kitchen
And then comes Fulton so it's hardly like he has found sublime form which would be the selectors chief concern.

Said in the newspaper this morning Guptill will be 3 with McCullum and Ryder opening, and he said he was comfortable with that.

The same article said Broom would probably bat at 6.

Guppy at 3 works too. No use fixing something that ain't broken.

Im not too fussed about McCullum opening if he can just settle down in the first 5 overs at least. he walks down the pitch practically every ball and its just not fooling anyone no more. If he calmsd down his natural game, along with Jesse's will see us score at a decent clip anyway. Really excited about Marty Guptill and Niel Broom getting a go, should be good viewing.

****, not the johnny raincloud again!

Tasty tip to all punters:

Multi betting on the big 3 from each team is looking to pay off big time:

Even if you hedge your bets and bat on any of the 3

For example:
To top score for each team would leave you something like this
$5 on Gayle to top score and McCullum =$84.40
$5 on Gayle to top score and Ryder= 84.40
$5 on Taylor to top score andGayle = 93.75
$5 on Chanders and McCullum = 90
$5 on Chanders and Ryder = 90
$5 on Chanders and Taylor = 100
$5 on Sarwan and McCullum = 101.25
$5 on Sarwan and Taylor = 112.50
$5 on Sarwan and Ryder = 101.25

While you don't have to hedge your bets being a gambling man keep in mind that those 3 are almost certainties to top score for West Indies in ANY game while on the Kiwi spectrum only Oram and How have top scored besides these men in recent memory and both are out. While further bets could be put on Guptill these just seem tantalizing.

This ^ betting would cost $45 and see a min. of $40 profit if you win (which is quite likely though not certain) and a possible $67 profit. You could also bet bigger or bet on less but have a go! I just might.

Haha, Ryder's been dropped for an alcohol related indiscretion. Poor bastard.

Surprised to see Sinclair get the recall, has he been gunning it in the Shield? Says he's going to bat at first drop, which puts paid to the Guptill at 3 idea. I suppose that makes it Guptill and McCullum opening.
