Southee's had a great start to the season. Fortunate too - I can imagine the conversation if the new tall right arm swing bowler was taking bags of wickets and Southee wasn't.
Somebody needs to make a You vs guy she told you not to worry about meme" with Southee and Jamieson ASAP

2008-2013 nz survived on one generational talent wanting to dominate. ultimately ross taylor decided he himself wanted to be nzs best ever. kane got thrown in early and had moments but struggled until late 2012 and mccullum only delivered on his ability once he became skipper because he too wanted to be the guy. jesse was jesse.

mccullum also provided a simple game plan for players coming in, which we treated as a meme at the time but for a developing test nation who didn't trust itself it was actually a stroke of genius. unsure what to do? refuse to die. the mccullum side pulled off so much cricket captain game shenanigans.

so i guess while you wait for the level below to show fruit you need your best players to want it. darren bravo being distraught yesterday was kinda a good sign - he obviously cares. you're still getting generational talents too - im getting stuck into jason holder atm but he walks into every side in the world and has a reasonable chance of making the windies all time side if he maintains his quality.

also congrats to timmeh. can he get the 300 this test? given the mess we were in at the start of his career, we take that. really liking his renewed vigour since his slump too. he seems to thrive on being doubted, a bit like the boss.

KW missing a test barely registers but Kohli doing the same cost CA millions. Ferguson looked on track to be a fulfilment for Bond's potential but then gets a potentially career-ending stress fracture and I only found out about that from the other thread. Southee hoops it round corners under clouds too but has just played a higher proportion of his tests away and no one's watching him hoop it at home. It's wild.

That was out of the No.11 playbook of playing the shortball.

I see ex-test cricketer Darren Bravo reads up.

Is a team passing 50 really a thing that needs announcing and clapping. Or just our ****ing ground PA loving himself and loving his own voice.

I had to laugh when he did it yesterday when West Indies were four down and the announcement was followed with a hearty round of applause from the crowd.

Enjoyed the interview with Tom Blundell, not too phased by anything whether he's shuffled up and down the order or thrown in to face Mitchell Starc with the new ball. WAG.

That was so clearly pad. Latham doesn't look particularly confident with his reviews.
